Not a lot of details but if you can id this song it will be great. here is what i know...

1. its after six degrees of Turbeelnce, i have all preceding cds.
2. i had this on my myspace account (in 06-07, so sue me) and it was identified as panic attack. I have learned since then that it is NOT panic attack at all.
3. ithink it starts with a note that builds up and then boom into the music.
4. theres a med. speed jun-jun-jun (think "mirror") riff with a synthesisor in the background, the keyboards almost sound like a violin)
5 at the end of every measure theres a note like when you hit a string and then pull up on the string? for a second or two
6. after 4 times of that it goes into a faster beat with i think some double bass
7. the only lyrics i can remember are something something shoulder, something something colder?
8. the riff itself is a nice nasty riff.
9. i cant find it on any song, ive used amazon and youtube, but no luck.
10. you will be my hero if you figure this out.

links to any videos or songs will be quickly confirmed or denied.

I dont know if theres a watched user list or anything on this site, but ill do anything like that for whoever answers me.

and yes, im sure its DT.

thanks!!

Are you sure it's not Burning My Soul? That fits the lyrics you posted even though its before SDOIT.

You've been a bad boy because that wasn't a DT song at all. It was a song from Elements of Persuasion that MP purposley circulated through file sharing networks under the name Panic Attack. This would have been around ToT or 8vm to discourage people from downloading the new DT album. I'd suggest checking JLB samples and see if you can find it that way.

3xodus

I'm going to guess that this isn't a DT song and it's the Mullmuzzler song Stranger. His songs started being fake leaked as DT songs around the 8VM time.

I'm voting on "Undecided" from Elements of Persuasion, although those lyrics are Burning My Soul, and not from anything on EoP.

Well that's a dick move... I don't want my bands music to be stolen so we'll use your solo project? I guess it could have worked the opposite way and let more people hear it on a larger than normal scale, though.

Not sure what gave you the idea that Mike circulated it, but that's completely false.  Yes, EOP songs were mislabeled as songs from Octavarium just prior to Octavarium's release (which was hilarious), but there's no evidence suggesting Mike was behind it.

Ultimetalhead

Better was the Superior album "Younique" being circulated as TOT. JLB wasn't even singing on it, yet people still fell for it.

Was Mike behind that one too?

Ahh I think Blob wins.. I remember thinking this was Panic Attack for a short time too. That sound at the end of the riff is something JP used a lot after a Gsus4 chord on a 7-string around the ToT time. It's not pulling on the string or anything, it's playing an open B and and bending at the third fret on the G string (Bb).. It makes that cacophonic whine sound.. It's pretty awesome. I learned it from listening to him play caught in a new millenium on the L:SFNY cd.

Nice attitude there dude. :tdwn   Actually when MP did mis-label songs to fight off the leak, he used B-sides like Raise the Knife, so he did continue to promote DT in a different way.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

I wasn't getting any attitude. I was unaware that MP ever mislabeled any leaks, I thought 8VM was just dedicated fans trolling downloaders. Like I said, even if he had leaked any of JLB's solo projects as DT it probably just got him exposure that he wouldn't have gotten otherwise.

RipX

IT WAS UNDECIDED. you are my new hero! thank you!! sorry about the lyrics screw up

ZirconBlue

Elements of Persuasion is awesome, by the way.  You should get it.

So is Static Impulse if you like the cookie monster vocals :) ... JLB has had the best side projects of any current or former band member imo. Even counting LTE and OSI (which I love).

WildeSilas

I'll have to dig around but there was an interview somewhere where Mike mentions doing this purposely with JLB's consent...

I fell for that because I was so damn new to the band I had only heard 3 songs by that point.

Okay, I may be going crazy, but does anyone else remember this bit of information? I remember either in an faq or an interview where MP talked about purposely leaking FII demo tracks (RtK, TWIUTB, and OME) to filesharing networks but renaming them as SDOIT tracks. In the same place, I thought he mentioned doing the same thing with a few of the 8VM tracks and using James EoP songs, with James' consent - reasoning that because it was the same voice, people would initially assume it was DT. I can't find this anywhere, and I SWEAR it used to be in the MP faq at his website.

Am I hallucinating?

What reason would he have for doing that?

WildeSilas

IIRC he said he did it to frustrate and confuse people who were illegally downloading those albums, and maybe it would compel them to buy DT, JLB or both.

If I can't find this anywhere, I'll delete all these posts because I don't want to spread mis-information, but it's going to drive me nuts in the meantime. Maybe I dreamt it...

You guys obviously haven't heard The Jelly Jam yet...

I have, and I still agree that James' side project work is the best.  But thanks for the reminder.  Jelly Jam is definitely a very close second.  Speaking of which, I wish they would release III.  I meant to ask JM about that last week and forgot.

WildeSilas

I talked to Ty a few weeks ago and he said it should be out "at any moment." Guess there's some hold up at the label.

Honestly, I was thinking the same thing.

Two things happened, that I think people get conflated:

A) MP did release FII demo tracks as fake leaks, and
2) Someone did release EoP tracks as fake leaks.

I don't recall anyone ever explicitly tying MP to number 2, though.

Then you're both hallucinating if you thought it was on the MP.FAQ - I maintained it, and I haven't updated it since 2003!   :P

Beg to differ with you both - JL's stuff is middle of the road, IMO. I'll take LTE and OSI over it any day (and not just because of the cookie monster crap on SI).

The problem with both LTE and OSI?  They don't have JLB on them.

Woodworker1

I thought I was familiar with all DT's side projects, but for the life of me I can't figure out what OSI stands for.  Yes, I'm new to the forum.
