Seriously, this band doesn't get the credit they deserve. Let's hear it for Dream Theater!  :metal

Also, Octavarium is my favorite song ever.

yeshaberto

my enthusiasm has only continuously grown for them ever since the first time I heard PMU in 1992...

they are an amazing band they incessantly amazes me.

they are brilliant live to boot

Dellers

Dream who? Isn't this the Lady Gaga forum?

Seriously though, they are widely and deeply appreciated by both myself and many people around me. While I and most others are listening to a lot of stuff that's not even remotely in the same neighborhood as DT, the band seems to be a common midpoint (I'm sure this sounds wrong in English) up here near the North Pole.

TAC

Within minutes of them hitting the stage as an unknown band to me in 1992, I had found my new favorite band. Hands down, my most listened to band of my adult life.
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Stadler on February 08, 2025, 12:49:43 PMI wouldn't argue this.

Definitely my favorite band, by far. Most of it just never gets old.
Quote from: LithoJazzoSphere on November 28, 2024, 04:50:14 PMThe senecadawg who won 11 roulettes is dead and gone.  He is now diogenesdawg2.

Life long Rush groupie and was sure no band would ever touch me heart, mind, soul and musically like Rush did.  Then in 2000 I heard Scenes.  I felt like I was cheating on my wife to have a new favorite, but sometimes you follow your heart !!  There are very few days in the last 11 years I have not listened to DT.

It was the late 90's, and a musical fug had descended on me.  I had lost some enthusiasm for music in general, and most of the music I did listen to was Rush, Queen, Santana, SRV... and some stuff I don't even recall.  I mean, I was really restricting the rotation. Then I listened to Images and Words, and it like a wind howled thru the canyons of my musical despair and blew the smog away.  Not only did I become enthused about DT, but I also had a renewed interest and joy in all my music. :)

Can't get enough of em! I feel revitalized along with them while listening to ADTOE. Musical bliss!

A band of which I hold fond memories and which will surely be missed.

...is how I would classify DT after I started getting really down on them due to the messes that were SC and BC&SL.

But my faith in them was very recently restored.

Jirpo

DT is my second favourite band! Amazing...

They have been my favorite band for 6 and 1/2 years since the day Octavarium was released. I can't express the love I have for this band and what they've released. Absolutely amazing and it's disturbing that most people don't know who they are.

Long Live Dream Theater!

I wasn't (and am still not) especially enthused about SC and BC&SL, either.  Yet, I wasn't really down on the band, because I figured that those 2 albums were a "phase" for DT that they would move away from.  So I did have a good deal of optimism prior to the release of ADTOE.

I haven't been into DT for extremely long (ADTOE was my first new DT album experience), but I can honestly say that they are one of the few things I enjoy as much as I enjoy Rush.

Oh, prior to ADTOE I had a tremendous amount of enthusiasm. The whole MP fiasco left me uncertain but they picked a great guy and wrote some great songs. I have never had so much anticipation for an album.

I hear ya.  I had some extra juice going, too.

I finished listening to I&W a few minutes ago, and am now spinning Permanent Waves.

Yeah, man.

A Dream Theater appreciation thread on a Dream Theater forum? How delightfully oddball!

I appreciate them very much for writing many of my favourite songs and albums. :tup

lonestar

They have been neck and neck with Yes as my favorite band for twenty years.
