Love it.

EDIT: Yesterday in the car, my gf and I were listening to it and we both just kept laughing and calling DT assholes for making this kind of music. lol. Seriously think about this. Someone wrote this part, with these notes chosen. At that tempo. And said you know what? THATS GOING IN A SONG. FUCK IT LET'S ADD MORE NOTES ITS PERFECT. And you know what, it is.

berrege

Indifferent about that section, but LNF is imo the worst song of the album.

I agree (except maybe for BMUBMD) in much the same way that this is the worst year of Albert Pujols' career.

Magikernandy

It stands out for sure, and I think like it.  :P

Only parts of it is unison actually. As far as I can here JP plays a pedalnote tappinglick that works as a counterpoint to what JR plays as well.

It might be the hardest thing they ever composed actually. It takes one hell of a guitarist to play that tight and clean live.

Nice reference!

Ravenheart

Easily the worst song on what is an otherwise solid album.

When I listen to that section by itself, I think it's really cool.

When I listen to the whole song, that part feels really weird.  I think it just came too early in the song.

Starting right about 10-15 sections before that I start to think somebody pasted in something from Train of Thought.  Now, Train of Thought is my favourite album, but this just seems sorely out of place here.  Not liking it so much as part of this song or album.

Laich21DT

Didn't like it much on the very first listen, but I've liked it more and more on each consecutive listen. Really hope to see how well they can pull it off live...

Haven't heard the ToT part, but I'm about to give the album another spin, so I will definitely listen for it.

Personally Lost Not Forgotten reminds me a little bit of The Dark Eternal Night - a mostly dark, heavy song, which has some really weird and crazy stuff in it, such as this section.
I actually agree with this, but LNF is a shit ton better than TDEN.

BTW, I love that section.  Fantastic.

It's not a part specifically, I don't think.  That minute or so just feels like it is from Train of Thought, or that it would fit on Train of Thought perfectly.

DT fans NOT liking a widdely diddely section?!  :omg:

wolven74

I like it. At first it threw me off because the time signature change was completely unexpected. Then I listened to the whole track a couple more times and realized that the majority of the song is straight up, in-your-face :metal: that it occurred to me that the widdly diddly section could be the bands way of giving the song a little  :rollin

Yeah that's what struck me about myself too. Usually they're great.
But like I said before, this particular section sounds like Mario Bros on speed to me.
I think it's also because of the choice of notes.

You say that like it's a bad thing. :lol
If Dream Theater released an album called "Mario Bros on Speed", I'd be all over it like Super Mario on speed.

JustinSire

the first few times I heard it, I thought it was cool but I didn't like where it fit in the song...it kept throwing me off

now that I expect it, I suppose I go along with it, but it is sort of jarring, hence why I went with the "oh dt you so crazy" option as I imagined that was the closest verbal representation of  ::)

It´s mostly due to the keyboardpatches JR uses as well as JP doing highregister hammer ons

If they played it an octave down using alternatepicking on the guitar and pianosound on the keyboard it would sound very different and propably a lot better

My least favorite part of the album, probably. It's completely out of place, and it doesn't seem to serve any purpose whatsoever. The rest of the song is a lot better.

This. That bit completely killed any enthusiasm I had at all for the song. LNF is the only poor track on the album.

Irock

I think the more I hear it, the more I like it. I wouldn't change a thing about it.

ZKX-2099

It's Dream Theater doing what they do best... What they want.

It's so ridiculously hard it makes me smile. Watching this live will be like a giant "FUCK, YEAH!" from my part.
