The HD renders look way better but even the 720p one is >1gig and too big to upload so I could only use the 480p version.

I tried posting it as a video response to the official OTBoA video but it didn't show up so I hope they see this.

Cool! I especially like JP and the shark at the 2 minute mark

*bump*

Not getting much love for this.  :(  Actually, almost nobody is even entering this contest, DT+Internet seems to always have issues.

I love it. Great job!

Really enjoyed the images with JP and JR during their respective solos!

Amazing work imo PetFish, I love the transitions and the graphics work. I bet the 720p version is stunning too!
I've just submitted my entry for Outcry, as I mentioned in Reap's thread the toughest part was to figure out how to put the lyrics on the video and have them be sync like subtitles. Silly problem I know but I've never done anything like that before.
Here it is https://youtu.be/cQgHVe17oW0
Problems: 1) It doesn't show with the other video responses. 2) There's an ad on it, it can be closed but I don't like that youtube forces it like that.

PetFish

Thanks, Metty, the theme and images you chose are powerful.  Really tough situation going on in Egypt.

I've tweaked mine a lot since I posted this one.  Do you know if it's possible to REPLACE a Youtube video with a new version but keep the views/comments/etc in place?

How do you u/l HD?  My 720p file is 1.5gb and my 1080p one is 3.5gb but it says I can only u/l <1gb.  Your Outcry video is twice as long AND in HD so how were you able to u/l it at all?

The thing about slideshows is to not go overboard with stupid transitions and just keep it elegant.  You an always tell when someone gets a program and makes their first slideshows.  They put dumb effects and transitions all over and just looks juvenile and stupid.

No I didn't know that! But I don't think I'm gonna tweak anything since it took me 6 hours to upload the file and I don't wanna do that again.
It seems like my Outcry entry won't make it into the contest since I got this message:

QuoteYour video, Dream Theater - Outcry , may include content that is owned or administered by these entities:
Entity: WMG Content Type: Sound Recording

A copyright problem, just like Reap predicted.
I dunno if it has something to do with my video not showing up on the OTBOA response videos page but I'm not there.

My file size is 364mb. I made it with Windows Movie Maker and took around 6 hours to upload since I'm on a slow connection at work. Maybe my file is smaller than yours cause mine is just images? I dunno.

Yeah I'm glad I didn't do that :)
Very sad it's not showing on the OTBOA responses page though. I'm trying to figure out if it was something I did wrong.

PetFish

Yeah, there's something wrong with the system.  It also seems like any time DT tries to do something on the Internets or related technology it's screwed up.  In 2003 they had bonus videos for Train of Thought where you put the CD in and it verifies something and then you watch but they couldn't even get that to work.  Broken DVD's and CD's, stuff like that.

As for copyright, I never got that message, my video does say "matched third party content" but RR *had* to know we'd need to use the actual music in our contest submissions and Youtube might not allow it.  But yeah, who knows if they're even watching these or searching for "dream theater lyric contest video" but that means a lot of people who make a video may not even get it seen.

I know JR probably isn't involved with this contest at all but I'll be giving him an HD copy on Wednesday when they play here.  I don't expect him to actually do anything with it but hopefully he'll like it.
