Shaman or no Shaman, anyone notice how the intro (and the whole song, in fact) is exactly like Take The Time. I'll break it down structurally:

Bridges In The Sky - Intro
=
Take The Time - Intro

Holy...

you're right.

And, get this.

Vocals come in, just a bit after. :omg: :omg:

Let's make it our lives mission for the next couple of years to completely rip new ones into the people with the I&W similarity theories heh

My overall thought process on the intro/outro:

The verse riff in Build Me Up, Break Me Down is clearly a blatant rip-off of surrounded's verse riff, starting at 2:00.

...You just have to sit there and think about it long and hard enough before you hear the resemblance.

It's a song about a shaman, so his voice is hardly out of place. It sets the scene nicely for me and is a fun thing too. My kids thought it wqas hilarious and spent the next 20 mins trying to do it.

At which point I'm sure you told your kids that they were foolish for attempting to sing a C2 before hitting puberty.

I'm only 18 and don't have kids, but if I do, I'll C2 it that they don't attempt something so unreasonable.

Today will be my third time with ADTOE, I had so many work during weekend... let's see how will it be :)

You're right. It's a B1. I was only going by ear, and I was off. And now I've ruined a perfectly good pun for theseoafs.

Well, you can tell your kids that no matter how many times they try to sing a C2, it'll never B1.

Yeah, I like it. I think it sets the tone for the song.

I won't lie--that voice makes me uptight.  No accident.

I feel compelled to go off topic for just a moment and point out part of the genius of Family Guy.  There is a particular comic device that is used repeatedly on that show that should not work, but somehow does.  And that is the repetition factor and/or drawing a joke out for an extended period of time.  Generally speaking, when someone makes an obvious joke, whether the joke was only slightly funny or majorly funny, once that joke gets extended or repeated, it immediately becomes unfunny.  On FG, MacFarlane uses this basic precept of comedy and turns it on its head.  He extends and/or repeats jokes, immediately rendering them unfunny.  Then he keeps doing that to the point where it is just uncomfortably unfunny.  But he doesn't stop there.  He still keeps pushing the envelope until the very length and/or repetition of the joke somehow becomes funny in and of itself.  Again, this shouldn't work.  But somehow, it does.

The lesson here, Elite, is that you are NOT Seth MacFarlane.  That is why you fail.  :evilmonkey:

lordxizor

I don't particularly like it. But it's kind of funny. I laughed the first time I heard it. I actually think the eagle cry or whatever it is during that section is cheesier than the shaman.

This trick was funny the first 200 times he did it. Not so much anymore, IMO. So perhaps if he keeps doing it another 200 times, it'll get to be funny again? :)

Fair point.  My point is simply that there are VERY limited contexts in which it is funny.

Rob801

I like it. It kind of reminded me of a Cirque Du Soleil vibe (the whole intro) which I'm a big fan of, also because of the atmospheric music (some shows better than others) among other things.

jdprsaga

I like the intro.. don't like the outro.

Bahaha, I saw this and smiled.

T-ski

my initial thought when hearing the intro was, "why is Portnoy doing vocals again?"  Then I remembered he's no longer in Dream Theater.  I've since come to the conclusion that it sounds ridiculous regardless of who is doing it.
