I don't know what this means or if its the same thing as hitting number 1 (like they hit number 6 for BC&SL) but hey, it's very cool nonetheless.  From Facebook:

"We've always said we have the best fans in the world--they never fail us! This includes our dear friends in Japan who've been through so much this year. Today, we heard from our label that our new album A Dramatic Turn Of Events went in—on the day of release--at #1 on Total Album Sales Chart! That's the chart for both the domestic and international artists. We are massively proud! Thanks to all the believers! And Japan, stay strong!""

I think this is just in Japan. When they hit #6 for BC&SL I believe that was in the states.

In Japan. Ninja'd.

Let's see on the 13th what it will be in the US.

Billboard charts don't come out until the next week.

Fantastic to see them at #1! They were third there for BCSL.

BlobVanDam

Japan sure knows how to rock. I can't wait to see if they can beat their personal best for the Billboard charts.

Congrats to DT for hitting #1 in Japan. We all know DT will once again sweep #1 in Europe, but the real question is what will they do here in the US? I hope they can crack the top 5.

Lady Antebellum and Eric Clapton have albums coming out September 13 :(

This is not the first time this has happened (DT is known for these very short spikes in purchases, and then immediate drop-off), but it's good to see they can still do it!!

This is normal, most DT fans will normally buy the album asap. I do not think that many of us will think a new album could be crap and wait first to hear it.

I think Europe #1 for the first week.

Definitly this. I saw many DT fans yesterday who were looking ADTOE day before release in music stores ;)

?

I wouldn't be surprised if DT topped the Finnish charts; they did it with BC&SL and there doesn't seem to be many releases as anticipated as ADTOE.

I doubt it will even break the top 50 here in the UK. :(

SC was #25 in the UK, and BC&SL was #23.

Don't forget Anthrax's Worship Music, which has been pretty hyped up as well.

Icebear

If DT doesn't end up no1 with this release, with all the hoopla surrounding the band this last year, I don't know if they ever will... Has a DT album ever been this anticipated?

DarkLord_Lalinc

Systematic Chaos was very expected, because the band attrracted lots of new fans during that time and after the whole Score hype (one cycle ends another one begins).

RedKlouD72

My prediction:   Strange DeJa Vu... sliding in at #6 all over again in the States.

According to Wikipedia, BC&SL hit #2 in Japan according to that album's page, or #8 in Japan according to their discography page, so ADToE is officially their highest charting album in Japan.

BC&SL charted at #5/6 here in Canada (depending on whether or not a Michael Jackson album that charted ahead of it is counted). Their last few have all charted better here than in the US, so it will be interesting to see if that trend continues.

Got some competition on the 13th

I think DT will be #4

Bush, Staind, Anthrax and Alice Cooper.... I say they beat Anthrax and Alice Cooper, honestly I didn't even know Bush was coming out with a new album but they seem like they would sell better than DT.

So I'm going with #3, possibly #2 since DT will have wider distribution than Bush.

TheKillingHand

BC&SL was #96 in Ireland  :lol Hopefully the 80s this time haha
