So DT are coming to Finland in January! Unfortunately the show date is Monday, I don't live in Helsinki and the tickets aren't that cheap so I'm probably not able to go... :(

I'm afraid I have the same problem, I can't get home at that time I try to arrange something.

Zukuduku

I have a ticket. It is interesting that they increased the ticket prices so much. Last time I am quite sure that the tickets were less than 50 euros, now 59. But then again, it has been four years since the last "full" DT concert as the last one was PN09.

At the moment there seems to be still tickets available to all sections in the venue.

erik16

I really want to go but I don't know if I can afford the tickets and if I have time during the university :tdwn

Bongasti

Yep, I got the tickets about a week ago, I'm going there with my friends. I was at the '07 concert in Helsinki, but back then, I didn't know nearly all DT songs, so I couldn't fully enjoy it. But this one's going to be awesome  :metal

Mladen

Is anyone gonna keep us updated tonight, song by song? Sorry for bumping the thread.

you can try at setlist.fm, someone will do the setlist in real time ;)

?

I'm lurking at a few Finnish forums where there's discussion about DT and someone will probably post the setlist so I can post it here tomorrow, unless someone does it earlier here or at setlist.fm.

Which ones? I think Octaforum is absolutely dead but I don't know any other discussion forums, maybe muusikoiden.net?

Gig should have finished now as its almost midnight in Finland.

Zukuduku

What a gig! This was my fourth time seeing Dream Theater, and it certainly felt that this is the best. Hell, this might well have been the best gig of my whole life, counting all bands.

The band played extremely well, only a couple of small mistakes. And during The Test That Stumped Them All JLB had to leave the stage before the final chorus to spit slime out of his throat. The audience was also surprisingly active with nice sing alongs in the general admission area in front of the stage. The Spirit Carries On was dedicated to JR as his mother passed away a couple of days ago. The band played it extremely beautifully.

MP penned songs have made a comeback to the setlist! I did not keep notes of the songs, but at least the following were played:

  • Bridges in the Sky
  • 6.00
  • Build Me Up, Break Me Down
  • Surrounded
  • The Root of All Evil
  • Outcry
  • Drum Solo
  • A Fortune in Lies
  • On the Backs of Angels
  • War Inside My Head
  • The Test That Stumped Them All
  • The Silent Man
  • Beneath The Surface
  • The Spirit Carries On
  • Breaking All Illusions
  • Pull Me Under

The order is not correct and I may have forgotten some songs. Huh, I'm still at awe!

EDIT: Notes about TSCO

wasteland

Wow, I sniped 6:00 and Fortune!

I'm very surprised to see The Root Of All Evil, though, very surprised!

11 long years I waited for 6:00 to make another live appereance. Fuck yeah.

It was quite clear that the time had indeed come for a nice comeback, as I said in the setlist thread.

I'm interested in Surrounded. Did the band switch back to the original version, or did the keep the extended 2007 remake? And also, how did James perform the song (and the rest of the show as well)?

DarkLord_Lalinc

Fingers crossed it's the studio version.

Also, this is the closest we can get have to a 6DOIT era setlist (best DT sets ever IMO).

Yeah! Basically it's a typical SDOIT setlist + ADTOE + AFIL + TROE. I like the standard Train Of Thought setlist better, but SDOIT-era concerts were terrific as well!

Daje!

Do you expect anyone to understand this? xD

Also, let us not ignore the lack of SC (welcomed) and of BCSL (inevitable).

You're right, but i'm coming from a conference call with the other guys from our fb group, so, you know :)
Let's just say that Daje means something like "here we go!"
As for the lack of SC and BCSL songs, i mean, it's not that bad when we have 6.00, Sorrounded and A Fortune in Lies!! :)

John94

Some nice surprises (Surrounded and TROAE) and some Im not overly fussed over(SDOIT, 6:00). Kinda surprised at no instrumental. Wonder what the rotations will be?

The Surrounded version was the original. I'm not an expert in vocals, but I think James did a good job. When he was not able to finish TTTSTA I was very worried, but afterwards there were basically no problems.

Well, throwing up is never a good thing for a singer, and JLB is a living example of this. I'll keep a close eye on his next performances...

krands85

Damn, I was afraid Endless Sacrifice and Under a Glass Moon would be dropped :(

Still some nice surprises in there though :)
Whoaaaahh, ohhh, ohhhhh. Whoaaaahh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhh. Waaah, ahhh, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaowwwwww

indalo

Good setlist!

No songs from FII, ToT, SC and BCSL... do you think they will include songs from these albums in setlist B (or C,D...)?

John94

I hope James is fine and takes a lot of rest tomorrow!

I am stunned by this setlist.  Mangini truly must be a machine to have learned all these extra songs over the holidays.  Since they added 2 songs to the rotation (16 as opposed to 14), is this set longer or close to length of the previous legs?

I assume the crowd did a simultaneous poop drop when Genie broke into the 6:00 drum intro, correct?

wow, DT never ceases to surprise me.

cyberdrummer

So, rotations for the next show:

Bridges in the Sky
6.00
Build Me Up, Break Me Down
Surrounded
The Root of All Evil
Drum Solo
Afterlife
Wait For Sleep
Far From Heaven

Outcry
War Inside My Head
The Test That Stumped Them All
On the Backs of Angels
The Spirit Carries On
Breaking All Illusions
--------------------------
Take the Time

Something like that?

Seems reasonable. I'd prefer something like:

Bridges in the Sky
6.00
Build Me Up, Break Me Down
Surrounded
Trial of Tears
Drum Solo
Peruvian Skies
Wait For Sleep
Far From Heaven

Outcry
Goodnight Kiss
Solitary Shell

On the Backs of Angels
Finally Free
Breaking All Illusions
--------------------------
Take the Time

But yes, there are too many changes in there.

KevShmev

Damn good set list.  Very well-rounded.

And several rumors can be now be put to rest:

-The idea that the band would not played songs with lyrics written by Portnoy.
-The idea that the band woudn't play any of the 12-Step songs.
-The idea that Portnoy was the only one who ever wanted to play WDADU songs.
