When you listen to the new album, will you listen to On The Backs Of Angels first?

I realise this question may no longer be relevant for many people (although those people can't admit to or discuss that, so this thread is still legitimate ;P) but: when you get the new Dream Theater album, will you listen to it in it's entirety, starting with On The Backs Of Angels? Or will you just skip to track 2 for new music since, for most of us, we've heard On The Backs Of Angels several times before?

Also if for some odd reason that I can't think of listening to the new album is not something in the future for you; do you generally listen to singles you have already heard on the first spin of a new album? Or do you just go to the new music?

I know that ideally, you should listen to the full album since that's what is intended. I guess this is what most people will say, even if they do end up going straight to the new stuff when they listen to A Dramatic Turn Of Events. But I know for me, sometimes I don't bother to listen to the singles I have heard before since I'm sitting down to listen to the new stuff. It depends on how I'm listening, really. And even when I do listen to everything on first go, I find myself skipping the singles (or starting after them, if they're at the beginning) a lot on my repeated listening of a new album, even if I like them.

I will definitely listen to the first track. I've been careful not to overplay it as not to ruin it for me, but I've still listened to it maybe 15-20 times since its release. (Needless to say, I'm a big fan.)

FlyingBIZKIT

Of course, I always listen to albums from start to finish.

darkshade

Yes. Ive only listened to it a few times so I'm not sick of it or anything. I also want the full album experience, as from what Ive heard, the album flows like a concept album, and can actually be listened to in one sitting (if you have the time). Unlike the previous few albums where I usually only want to listen to certain songs from their respective albums.

It is kind of a bummer that OTBOA is the album opener, but whatchagonnado...

MasterLomaxus

Absolutely not.  I will be way too excited to hear the rest of the songs.  Now, I'm sure that after one time of listening to the others, I will go back and listen to it in its entirety.

bosk1

Most likely, I will listen to the entire thing from start to finish.  But it depends.  If I pick up the album at lunch in the middle of the day, I won't have time to get through more than a couple of songs on the short drive back to the office, in which case I will skip it so I can hear some of the other songs, and then I will listen to the whole thing later n my drive home.

Jusdoit. I'm sure the sound quality will be better than the one posted online. Get the full album experience.

I've only heard it once and hardly recall what it sounds like, so yes.

CrimsonSunrise

First run through?  No....  I'll come back to it thought too see the diff between the download version and the disc.

MasterShakezula

Yes.  I don't know what it sounds like.  If I skip it, I still won't know what it sounds like.

Ben_Jamin

All the way through is the only way...

I listened to OTBOA once, and pretty much already forgot how it went, and I haven't listened to any of the snippets. This is going to almost be a completely new experience for me. Can't wait.

ElliottTamer

Even though I have listened quite a lot to OtBoA, I hope to find the time to listen to the album in its entirety when its sound finally reaches my ears. The album is supposed to flow pretty well, so that's a reason for doing that. Also, I think that listening to OtBoA will be quite a nice warm-up.
That being said, I would not usually do this if I had already heard the single before, but DT is special

Madman Shepherd

I have already planned on how I'm going to listen to the album and I'm going to wait til I get off work, get in my car, and go for a looooong drive along the river.  So I will listen to my whole album.

I have resisted, ya know, doing the wrong thing and downloading OTBOA because I want to make sure my first listen in my car is the highest quality possible.

Is that a Tubes reference, or am I just overthinking shit again.

And yes, gonna listen to it from start to finish.

But in all seriousness yes I will listen to OTBOA, I've Listened to it a few times having downloaded it from Amazon but recently I've been trying to stay away from the song these last few weeks in anticipation of listening to the new album.  :metal

Of course I stopped listening to OTBOA like month and half ago to let it regain some freshness for the album release

Interesting that so many people have not listened to OtBoA to keep it fresh. I haven't stopped listening to it since it was released and must say my appreciation of it has actually grown quite a lot.

chknptpie

I've only listed to OTBOA 3 or 4 times, so no problem for me.

axeman90210

I listened to OTBOA a bunch after it was released, so my guess is I'll still listen to the whole album front to back the first time for completeness, and then spend a whole lot of time listening to all the non OTBOA tracks.

Guitalguy

Will listen to full album, from OTBA to BTS with as litte interruption as possible. I wanna be on that emotional rollercoaster JP talks about.

CrimsonSunrise

Most of the peeps posting "Yes"....haven't listened to it much.  From my side....  It's on a mix CD in my truck, and I've probably listened too it seriously about 100 times in the last couple months.  I should have stopped myself....LOL.  Now... for the other snippets, I've not listened to any of them more than twice.. ;D

tri.ad

I will definitely listen to the whole album; my guess is that I haven't overplayed OTBOA yet, and I also think that this album deserves to be listened from start to finish.

Super Dude

I will listen from beginning to end, no exceptions.
:superdude:

VanBrandevoort

I'll definitely skip it the first time. Really want to hear the rest of the songs first :metal

Stonestef

I guess it will be the same as BC&SL.I keep thinking that I will listen to the whole record but having listened to OTBOA for so many times,I'm sure that I will skip it once I hear the intro. And then, after some time, when I will have listened to all the songs as much,I will start listening to the whole record. The same thing had happened with ANTR and AROP.

EpicCookie

I'd  just start at the beginning of the album, which is OTBOA :P

RG93

Of course, I haven't listened to new DT material yet :P

metropofreak

Im going for the full run through!
