I'm one of those fans that like WDADU for what it is. However, I've never really gotten into it as I have the other albums because, frankly, it doesn't sound like DT. It's been over 20 years since it's release. I've always wondered if it would be better with the Portnoy lineup or the current lineup. The biggest detractor for me is the production/mastering and the vocals. I bet if the current lineup gave it a run and rerecorded WDADU, it would sound absolutely amazing, and would fit more in the DT catalogue as a whole. I know there are purists, but personally, I'd like to see this happen somewhere down the road, though I know after this long it's not likely to happen.

What do you think? Would you like to see a rerecording of WDADU with the current lineup?

There is a remaster out there, I remember seeing it on retailer PLAY.com, but it's a muddy mix I heard.

WDADRU is that remaster or re-recording that was wanted by the fans or how they would do it with the classic lineup.

Would I like to see it with the present line up. Not really, it's be done already. Mangini wouldn't make a HUGE difference to the album so I would rather see a good DVD of various songs and more FII songs.

I just can't imagine how it wouldn't feel like they were banging it out just to get it over with.  Also, I have to admit it would sound weird with Mangini on drums.

A remix/remaster of course would be worth hearing.  But I actually don't mind the production on the original that much, even though it's obviously cheap.  A rush job by Terry Date is better than most engineers at their best.

They should have re-recorded the album when JLB first joined the band.
WDADRU is probably the closest we'll get to a re-recording.

Yeah, this. Although really, one could just take bootlegs of most songs from that era. AFIL and TKH got official release on LATM, and there's plenty of good versions of Ytse Jam. Afterlife has the great version on Score. And just like that, half the songs have great-quality versions. I'm sure there are semi-decent bootlegs of the other four, and WDADRU is better than nothing (although I find it worse than the original in many spots TBH).

Don't forget the version of "Only a Matter of Time" on Live at Budokan. All you'd need to complete it, really, is Status Seeker, Light Fuse and Get Away, and The Ones Who Helped to Set the Sun, which are all pretty good on WDADRU anyway.

It is true that we have some good live versions of most of the songs, and I'm glad we have those.
I was always a bit surprised that they never did an official bootleg of those songs being performed back in '93 (probably from various shows).

not that this wouldn't be cool, but there are some things I would rather get. As another poster said earlier, a new live CD/DVD would be great.

As far as re-recording goes, I remember reading somewhere that they didn't want to do that, as it would be going backwards musically, rather than forward with new material. Don't quote me on that though.

That sounds familiar, so you may be right.

Personally I don't think it's worth it. The market potential for it is tiny and doesn't really warrant it. It's not like it's a popular album that was recorded badly. The few songs I like have already been released in some form live, so I'm content for them to just leave it in the past.

A complete remix would be nice, although to be honest, I'm not sure there's much it could do, because the original recording quality isn't great to begin with.
