I like the music a lot..... but.... I don't like those lyrics at all.  SO cheesy and lame.  Sorry, just my opinion.

SystematicThought

That bass part was so unexpected. I love it. At first I was disappointed by the chorus as isn't this the one that every review has noted as being instantly memorable. However, than all of a sudden I found myself singing it!

Neuth

The chorus was a little bit "meh" for me at first, but it's kinda growing on me. The rest of the snippet is pretty cool though.

tri.ad

I have to revise my opinion about the snippet. It's much better than I thought after having listened to it for the first two times. It's heavy, but still not trying too hard. It's technical, but not too much over the top. The lyrics are OK, and the definite highlight for me is the bass groove towards the end.

My oath to listen to the snippets only one is also taking its toll... I don't remember what BAI or BTS or TITL was... which is good I think :) album so soon guys!! :metal

I... can't... stop... listening... to this snippet.  The chorus is devastating, the djenty part is non-ending fun, and I LOVE how Mangini handles the transition into the apparently lighter vocal section.  This is what Dream Theater should be.

The Presence of Frenemies

Pretty awesome snippet. It's nice to see that DT is still comfortable doing the heavier numbers even with Portnoy gone.

The transitions between the chorus lines sound a bit forced, but I find them making more sense each time I listen. I feel like some of these odd time-sig riffs in the snippets sound out of place now but will make more sense once we have the full songs that actually set up those riffs.

The highlight of this snippet is unquestionably the breakdown though. Just incredible. This and Outcry are the two tracks I'm looking forward to the most.

Dream Team

DT + speed metal = WIN.

Seriously, they sound so good playing fast like that.

Super Dude

This is interesting.  All throughout OTBOA I said that it felt very early Symphony X, and I've have to say the same about this one.  That's not a complaint, btw.  Brings back fond memories.

I dont know about anyone else, but this is my favorite snippet, with BAI right behind  :tup

atmyne

When it comes to drums, I haven't exactly developed any sort of taste/knowledge of tone quality, timbre etc. but I really love the sound of MMs snare drum; Especially in this snippet. sounds sexy :metal

You're not the only one.

The Silent Cody

I'll try not listen to it to the release date. I even didn't notice that bass thing of which You Guys are talking about, but I will wait with listening, let the album came out.

Banny

Like every sample so far, only listened to it once.

:metal
Oh my god this album will be fucking sweet.

Plasmastrike

I was initially going to not listen to the samples at all but.. just couldn't! I figured a good compromise would be that I'd let myself listen to each snippet just once, right when it came out. To my luck, handfuls of the melodies/riffs didn't stick in my mind. It's kinda even a bigger tease because I want to hear them again so badly! :D

I like how any palm muted grooves are now 'djent'. Does this mean that And Justice for All was a Djent record?

Kind of agreed, but that's mainly 'cause I'm not a fan of the word "djent" in any way. :p Then again, I'm always slow to warm to slang. Which is weird, 'cause I really dig chatty lingo, and outdated lingo, so watching slang evolve should be right up my street. I don't like the word at all, though. For a second.

I do agree with what Reap's saying, though. Was a neat post!

I just think the term is thrown around way too liberally and applied incorrectly the majority of the time.

Super Dude

So far I like the BAI snippet the most, but I don't feel right judging it against a full song (OTBOA), at least not until I hear BAI in its entirety.

Can't stop listening to this, MM's best playing so far from what I heard, That fill at the end is phenomenal, and they sure teased us well by showing that first word of when JLB's pitch goes up, I can't wait to hear that section!

LieLowTheWantedMan

This might be one of my favourites.

SystematicThought

I do kind of hope though that the bass cuts through a bit more on the little bass part in the snippet when I listen to it on my speakers.

The bass only disappears in these few bits because it's doubling the guitars, and because JP's palm muted chords are quite bass heavy here. For the rest of it, you hear Myung loud and clear, because he's doing his own thing a lot more (rather than doubling). On BCASL I noticed a tendency for Myung's bass to disappear when he goes higher up in the range, but not so on this album. He remains clear and audible, and the bass tone is clean and bubbly, not the distorted sound he's used on recent albums. The section the snippet is leading into when it cuts off has Myung very audible and prominent.

TMI?

No, by all means, keep going.

Kinky.

People keep finding unintentional innuendo in my posts.

I wonder if I'm a closet homosexual and just don't know it yet.

I hope all the non-drummers here can sort of grasp how fucking ridicous and twisted some of these MM runs and "separations" are. Except for TITL I've involuntarily shouted "OH FUCK ME SHUT UP" or some such when listening to each snippet for the first time. His playing is beyond my expectations for him so far. I mean, there are hints of this stuff on other session projects but it sounds like he's completely off the leash here.
