I heard this song a while ago and just dug it out on Grooveshark. I'm just wondering if you guys can share some info on the background of the song.

JP's playing was way different from anything i've heard of him. (maybe close to the playing on An Evening With John Petrucci & Jordan Rudess but i still feel his phrasing on Long island express is better.) Also is that JMX playing bass? Great tone and great playing.

What do you guys think?

Thanks for the info. I would have never noticed that without you pointing it out. Now it sounds a little funny, in a good way.

I've never heard of this song.  It's a Dream Theater tune?  Can someone point me in the right direction on where I could find it?  I assume it's on one of the Ytse Jam releases or something.

Its on a limited edition cd called "acoustic dreams".  I heard there were only 500 copies.

I've always liked it. I really love Long Island Sound, which was on the "Instrumental II" bootleg also...

It's a fantastic piece.  Yes, it's on Acoustic Dreams, but I have no idea where it came from.

Thoughts = Thumbs Up.  Would not have connected the double meaning in "Lie" if it were not for this song.

It's actually a bootleg, made by the legendary Mike Bahr.

This sounds awesome. I didn't know this side of Dream Theater, but I certainly wouldn't mind if they did more of that stuff.

;)

FYI, Long Island Expressway is a name that Mike Bahr came up with on his own. The band/MP had nothing to do with the name (which is the same situation for the name of the intro tape "Distant Echos" used on some Dominici-era shows).

All the conversations in between tracks were edited out. And AD and OHN were *not* from the same broadcast - IIRC they were from 92 or 93.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.
