Anyone doing anything worthy of discussion to prepare for DT's next album?
I decided that, since it's only, like, 20 days until the album is released, I would organize a playlist of all of DT's studio albums (plus Raw Dog, the Queen song(s), and On the Backs of Angels) and I've started listening to them in order until I hear the new album.
It's pretty interesting considering Dream Theater's sound changes several times from When Dream and Day Unite to now.
Also, their studio discography takes up freaking 13 hours in only 89 songs.

I'm currently at the beginning(ish) of Images and Words

I've never listened to DT's full discography like this, only on shuffle-type things (except certain occasions where I've listened to Octavarium in its order or the 12 step suite) so I'm kinda interested to see how it goes.
Hopefully it'll actually last me until the release. That is, hopefully I won't finish it in 3 days because I like listening to their music so much.

GasparXR

I finished my DT album marathon today. Took only 5 days XD

I won't do any rituals in "preparation" for ADTOE. The only preparation for listening to it will be driving to the CD shop, buying the album, driving home and popping the CD into my stereo. Simple as that.

Obfuscation

Besides just listening to DT everyday for most of the time, no I won't be doing any ritual but i want to and might end up doing it.

Perpetual Change

I'm doing a discography listen. I'm on Train of Thought now.

...Yeah, I forgot these always get really painful after 6DOIT :(

The Silent Cody

I will be doing a discography relisten, but not yet :) I could end this is in one day if I get into good vibe :P I will start this in 10 days before release.

I want to do this, but I'm still in the process of learning a band's entire discography that I may play for (3 entire full lengths). My plan is to get that done asap and jam DT 24/7 until the new album is released so I can hopefully cover the entire DT discography.

Listening to Dream Theater Non Stop, I'll probably do a discography listen starting on september 3rd, with an album a day, annnnnddd making notes of things Dream Theater has done to prepare all of us for its release.

Phantasmatron

In the past I've done a one-DT-album-a-day in the days leading up to the newest release.  I don't think I'll be doing that this time.  I kinda just want to go into the new one fresh, as it feels like it should be the beginning of a fresh DT era anyway.

My pre-ADTOE ritual will consist of walking a mile/taking the crowded bus from my college to the music store in dusty humid Indian heat every day from 1st September to the 12th (and beyond), reminding the music store owner to get at least one copy of the album  :(

I WOULD WALK FIVE HUNDRED MILES

My pre-ADTOE ritual, as with any recorded album release since Awake , is to do my entire collection in chronological order. Yes , I know , it's hardcore. I'm talking albums , live albums , Official bootleg series ,  fanclub CDs , side-ptrojects and bootlegs.  Around Octavarium I had to dump reading the fanzines and magazine articles  'cause it got to be too much. This time around I dumped doing the side projects that included just MP, Sherinian and Moore.

But yeah , I've been doing this since February. I have to plan out far enough in advance so I can get it all in. I basically start when they announce they've entered the studio and I try to do no more than 1 a day. I want to enjoy the review without burning out. I just finished the Systematic Chaos era today so, this week will start Black Clouds.

I still think it's cool that people have their own pre-release ritual. Hopefully , most of you are not obsessive (or foolish) enough to do what I do.

All I can do is hope keep my fingers crossed that my CD comes before Tuesday because I pre-ordered it. I wont be able to survive a Tuesday at school knowing there's a brand new album at home waiting to be appreciated.

I'm also going to make sure that I get all of my work out of the way so I have no distractions whilst listening.

This. Although mail doesn't arrive until 3 which is when I get out of school anyway :P

alirocker08

Mine comes at about 10 am, so it'll make for one of the most painful school days I will ever endure if it doesn't arrive on Monday

Please Amazon, you're good at getting pre-orders here early, do it for me!

tri.ad

That reminds me... I still haven't pre-ordered the album yet. Maybe I should get to it, but there's still two and a half weeks to go. No stress. :hat

snapple

Probably wake up, rub off a load. Then I'll enjoy the album with a glass of scotch.

Fixed for me. (quit drinking)

jsem

I'm not gonna change my listening habits, but when the album comes I'll listen to it a few times. If it's really good, I'll listen even more.. like a lot

GasparXR

I will remove a toe and then ad a toe when I get the CD.

tgstk2

on the 9th i get home from work.
the CD is in my mail box. i  eat shit and shower
pop it in my stereo and listen it for the first time with headphones and booklet in my hand.

ive actually never ancipated an album like this before... should I expect to go into a record store on release date and find it, or do some stores take a few days to actually get things in stock?

wammabe

Listening to the entire discography would probably be a bit too much for me. I'm probably going to dance and tell my family that if they go anywhere near my room while listening to the album, I'll destroy them.

I think it depends for what shop You want to go, but yes, I think that You will find ADTOE in its release day. In Poland since Train Of Thought release it was no problem.

obscure

it's my everyday ritual!!!! no change there.....
