The reason why i want to hear of your own experiences with this happening is because it just happened to me this morning. I really didn't like SC. It was the only album that even has songs I don't like (ItPoE pt. 1 is amazing though). Now, I love it. I can't describe how strange the feeling is because it was such a huge leap of how i thought of the album just yesterday. So anyways, share your stories if you have any   :)

Lotion

SDOIT and FII. Especially Blind Faith, The Great Debate, Trial of Tears and Lines in the Sand. These are all among my top 15 now. I just gave them a second chance, and suddenly I loved them.

LCArenas

Songs: Blind Faith, Scarred, ItPoE Pt. 1, Honor Thy Father The Ministry of Lost Souls, Home, Lines in the Sand.
Album: FII

FlyingBIZKIT

FII. I used to consider it one of my least favorite DT albums. Now it's my second favorite.

Millais

strangely enough i agree with you. SC is one of those albums which grows on your dramatically.
Honor Thy Father as a particular song does it well also.
and Blind Faith/The Great Debate from SDOIT

Marion Crane

Tuscany.  No question.  After the first listen, I literally called my friend and said "this is the worst DT song ever."  It's in my top 10 favorites now.

yorost

I used to hate both Awake and Train of Thought, but they're my two favourite albums, now.  Awake switched as a whole, but with Train of Thought it happened song by song.

Jaffa

I'm actually going to have to say When Dream and Day Unite.  Before a couple days ago, I had never listened to the album in it's entirety - I'd listened to all of the songs on Youtube, but only actually got the album last week.  As individual songs, I never much cared for any of them, but when I finally listened to the whole thing in order... well, I'm still not exactly in love with it, but my opinion has definitely improved a lot.

Also Wither.  I find it amusing that a song called 'Wither' was a grower for me.

I got BC&SL and was like "Man none of these songs really stand out."

I then had went on a long time where I got out of DT and hadn't listened to them in a while.  Came back here, signed up and started listening to DT a lot again and the song has grown on me so much.  Really enjoy it!  Still not into the rest of the album too much, but that track is great!

Images And Words and Awake - I wasn't such a big fan of them back when I was a complete n00b.

\o\ lol /o/

m0hawk

Albums: I&W and Awake. I really disliked the production and the lack of "whoamg" riffs. Now they're just filled with awesomeness.

Songs: Scarred, Blind Faith, A Change of Seasons, Learning to Live, These Walls, Erotomania, The Silent Man, Lines in the Sand, Just Let Me Breathe, Strange Deja Vu, About to Crash.

krands85

Songs that have grown on me recently:
Trial of Tears, Scarred, Lines in the Sand.

Album wise, probably Awake and FII I guess - thanks to ToT and LitS. Images and Words also took quite a while to grow on me actually. It went from 'Meh, Metropolis is the only song I really like on this album' to 'Hmm, this is actually the best album of all time'  :lol Though I put that down to not being introduced to the band until after 8VM came out and being more into metal at the time.
Whoaaaahh, ohhh, ohhhhh. Whoaaaahh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhh. Waaah, ahhh, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaowwwwww

FII is the only one that grew on me.  The rest are either the same or worse.

kartmaze2

Learning to Live was the last song I really liked on I&W. Now I think it's the best on the album...
Also a LOT of other DT songs has grown on me to become my favourites, some faster than others.

Album wise, Awake and SDOIT were the ones that I didn't listen much to in the beginning, but they are now two of the albums that get the most spins.

Dcrupi

The entirety of Six Degrees...didn't care for the album at all, but now it's in my top 3.  Also, was not a big fan of LTL or Awake in general until I spent some more quality time with them.

This.
I forgot to mention Six Degrees, I completely ignored the first disk for a very long time.

Definitely for me it would be Scenes from a Memory. It was the first DT album I heard, and I enjoyed it at first...but it took about a year of listening and seeing it performed live for it really sink in and solidify itself, in my mind, as one of the greatest albums ever created!

I hope I could say the same one day. What is the significance of this album that makes it THE BEST? Hopefully after ready someone's reply, I will listen to the album with a new perspective. Right now its just that album with an amazing solo in The Spirit Carries on and an epic overture.

Lionheart1827

6DOIT definitely. I dont know what it was but it just wasn't grabbing me when I first got it(Disc 2). Disc 1 was ok. I do remember one day I was on my way home on the LIRR from the city and I just decided to put it on and then it kinda just clicked for me.

The one album that everyone seems to love that never really grew on me too much is Awake. Dont get me wrong, the album is good, but I seldom ever get through the entire album if I listen to it cover to cover.

Metrovarium

I used to hate Awake, now I adore it. As for songs, The Silent Man, Scarred, I Walk Beside You, and Sacrificed Sons come to mind.

BlobVanDam

Falling Into Infinity - I hated it when I first heard it. I think it was mostly biased after only just watching 5YIALT and realizing there was some dude who plays keys between KM and JR, and I didn't like him one bit. I finally got into it once I gave the songs a chance on Budokan and realized they were really good. I'll also mention Trial of Tears as a song that specifically took a long time to grow on me. Last one on the album to hit me.

Most of disc 1 of SDOIT - For a long time disc 1 to me was just TGP. After that, the rest of the disc didn't compare. TGD and Disappear took a long time to grow on me. TGD because of the long intro and lyrical matter, and Disappear because it starts off slow.

Octavarium - This was the first DT album that didn't grab me on first listen, not even the title track. Eventually the album grew on me though.

darkshot

I think the biggest one for me is Sacrificed Sons.  The first time I heard it I was like oh great another one of these 9/11 songs that is kinda cheesy about "Oh how could they do this to us? We are Americans we must stand strong," and so on.  (Iced Earth - "When the Eagle Cries" comes to mind...)  I normally avoid those songs.  Not because I'm downplaying what happened at 9/11, but because I think most songs about it are kind of forced and not all that interesting.

But a few years later I sat down and watched Score again, and Sacrificed Sons really stood out to me.  I relistened to the album version and really dug some of the riffs.  I still think the lyrics could be better but there is some really good instrumentation going on which totally makes up for that.  It turned into my favorite song on Octavarium.  On the other hand, I've started to recently lose interest in the title track Octavarium.

Was pretty much going to write exactly this, but you just did it for me..  :P

Awake.. I now love the album but I still think Lie is right up there with Anna Lee as the worst DT song ever.

Also this:

Except I loved TGD and Misunderstood was instantly one of DT's greatest songs imo. But the other two songs didn't seem to fit for a little while before I finally grew into loving them.

senecadawg2

Awake took me the longest to get into, mainly because of the general darkness of the album.

The count of Tuscany!Really hated it at first but after i saw the band performing it live, it changed my mind completely!Really love that song now!

Awake and FII by far
This exactly. I remember first listening to Awake and thinking 'what's all the fuss about?' I remember thinking 6:00 wasn't bad, CIAW is generic, IF was lame and turning it off 3/4 through Erotomania then not picking the album up again.

A few months later when I became more of a hardcore fan and hearing all sorts about Awake, I picked it up, and it's gradually growing on me still! I absolutlely love The Mirror, Scarred and SDV.

Other than that:

Under A Glass Moon (recent tour got me into this a lot)
Wait For Sleep
Learning To Live
New Millenium
Hell's Kitchen/Lines In The Sand
Overture/Strange Deja Vu
Misunderstood
As I Am
Endless Sacrifice
In The Name of God
Never Enough
The Ministry Of Lost Souls
ITPOE Pt. 2
The Shattered Fortress

Octavarium took quite a while to grow on me. I think it was all about expectations though, I was expecting something in the vein of Train of Thought.
I still think the title track could lose the first 4 minutes though, it took me a long time to appreciate the song because of that.

Six degrees has only recently begun to grow on me. I think if I could see the title track as one song, I would love it. But by virtue of it being broken up into individual tracks, I end up skipping songs and picking favourites.
Disc 1 has been even harder for me to get into though, Blind Faith isn't great (except for the middle section), I'm not keen on The Great Debate vocal style (but again, great middle section), and I'm not a fan of Disappear.

Learning to Live. Since I bought I&W about a year ago until maybe 2 months ago, I wasn't a HUGE fan of the song. I liked it yeah, but I preferred Metropolis over it. But I decided to listen one day and now it's my favourite off the album (in fact, Metropolis isn't even my 2nd favourite on the album now :P).
