On the live version of SDV, James says that it is Kevin Moore's swan song. So I was wondering, would you consider Best of Times MP's swan song? If not, does he have a swan song?

EDIT: It's TSF now.

Nope. Space Dye Vest was all Kevin Moore (lyrics, music, etc.) The Best of Times is more like a Dream Theater song with very personal Portnoy lyrics.

I'd consider him finishing the 12-step songs as his swan song.

Oh I forgot about that. Yea I think that is his swan song, not Best of Times. So I'll change the title if that's OK.

Please let it be as most of those songs are not that good.

I usually think of TBOT more as his swan song, but I can see the argument for the 12 step suite too, so maybe that's more fitting. They both deal with issues very personal to him. I just think of TBOT because it's the last one of his on the disc. Not very scientific reasoning. :lol

That's actually not a bad thought. Considering how keen he was on finishing the Twelve-Step Suite, it could really be qualified as a worthy conclusion to his writing as a DT member.

DejaVu

TBOT for me, it seems more emotional and really makes me think about MP leaving, I know the lyrics are personal to MP, but I often think to myself that it could also apply to his relationship with DT and looking back at memories. TSF is kick-ass, but that's all I feel out of that song, it's more like a medley of his 12-step suite.

In fact, I always catch onto the ironic lyrics from TCOT, with all the 'goodbye' business, that makes me think of his departure metaphorically. :lol

The Letter M

I'd say both, really, and considering BC&SL was his last album with the band (unintentionally), it's very fitting that he writes lyrics to a song honoring his father (when one of his first lyrics was for a song honoring his mother), and that he finishes writing the Twelve-Step Suite.

It's a tie, for me, really.

^ Agreed! TBOT even has a small lyrical reference to ACOS. "Seize the day"
