Maybe this is immensely obvious and everybody but me already knows about it, but I just noticed it for the first time while reading DT lyrics.

Take the Time: "Close your eyes / You can find all you need in your mind"

Just Let Me Breathe: "Just close your mind / You can find all you need with your eyes"

Connection?  Coincidence?  Intentional but unimportant?

wammabe

I'm pretty sure its intentional. I'd think its obvious, but then again, I was already told before listening to the song. :{D

Jaffa

It probably is very obvious, and I've just never paid enough attention to Just Let Me Breathe to notice the lyric.

Marion Crane

The JLMB lyric is sarcastic. The whole song is

FlyingBIZKIT

Yeah, also:

"Just close your mind you can find all you need with your eyes" - Just Let Me Breathe, Dream Theater

"So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye" - Bohemian Rhapsody, Queen

When you listen to both, they sound similar.

The Letter M

JLMB also has the WFS/LTL quote in the keyboard line, so I think it's a nod to those two IAW songs. Also, I think it's a reflection on the music industry, something similar to what the band had used as some inspiration to the lyrics of "Take The Time", which was their reflection on what they had gone through between WDADU and IAW as a band, and dealing with label changes and other things.

Similar? It's the same damn melody.

IIRC, Freddy goes down and then back up in "eye", but the end of the JLMB line, it's entirely descending.

That doesn't change the fact that it's the same vocal melody, and being Queen fans, they must have known.

No matter really. It has all the same notes, just one ends differently.

No, it's not quite the same, but very close. I never even recognized the obvious similarity until now though. They start on a different note of the scale, but the rest of it is near identical. I can't believe I've never seen this one pointed out before.

tri.ad

Yeah, the link to TTT's lyric was definitely intentional. I'm also surprised at the similarity to the vocal line in Bohemian Rhapsody; I just compared them and the similarity is almost scary. Whether it was intentional or not would be an interesting question; I don't think so, but it surely should give the general DT haters some food for yelling "rip-off!" once again.

KevShmev

Heh, I had never noticed that similarity before.  The most obvious Queen "borrowed" melody to me is the beginning of Surrounded sounding like the beginning of Queen's Father to Son.

Listen to Hourglass

Then listen to Love of My Life (Queen)

Obvious enough?

On topic... The TTT / JLMB  line... holy shit I always kinda noticed it but didnt think much of it

Intentional but unimportant.  Especially since Take The Time is awesome and Just Let Me Breathe is, well, not.

I have noticed both of these things. Intentional or not, it has always annoyed me. I don't get the point.

Implode

The Bohemian Rhapsody line was the first thing I really noticed when I listened to JLMB.
