Will any of the longer songs on ADTOE have movements/sections?

Yes
No

Easy question guys - BC&SL provided us with the two longest DT songs without movements, ANTR and TCOT, both long songs with what FEEL like individual movements/section, but they were not labeled/named as such, like the movements of ACOS or 8VM or ITPOE.

We've got four songs over the 10-minute mark, so it's possible that one, two, three, or all four of them may have individual movements in them. The shortest DT song with movements is "The Killing Hand" at 8:42, so it's not unlikely that "Breaking All Illusions" or one of the others might have movements within the song.

If this album is as good as I think it will be, I know that *I* will probably have a movement the first time I listen to it.

Holy crap!  I'm in the first half dozen posts!!!  I said no, although I think it would be great if the entire album was one conceptual masterpiece in nine different movements.

On the topic at hand; I think that there will be at least a song or two that have movements within the song. With the notion--from the band, that is--that A Dramatic Turn Of Events is going for a more retrospective Images And Words-style of an album--that of which did have a song (Metropolis Pt. 1) that had movements, I think that there is a good chance that we will see one on the new record as well. That's not to say that just because there was one tune on that record that had movements, it just seems like that was something that they did prominently throughout their career, so I think that it will make a return on the new album.

AFAIK, Metropolis Pt. 1 doesn't have movements, and is one song. When I say movements, I mean literally, as in numbered sections, which the following songs have: "A Change Of Seasons", "The Killing Hand", "Trial Of Tears", "Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence", "Octavarium", and "In The Presence Of Enemies", as well as all 5 of the Twelve-Step Suite songs, and if you want to get picky, the suite "A Mind Beside Itself" contains 3 movements that have been labeled as "I. Erotomania"/"II. Voices"/"III. The Silent Man".

Also, if you REALLY want to get picky, SFAM had "Scenes", where in three Scenes had two parts (Scenes Two, Three and Seven). So technically that means only IAW is the only album without a song with movements in it.

I think there will be one or two, but whether there are or not I really don't care. The only movements I care about in any DT song are the 6DOIT ones.

I sure hope so.
Hope? Delusion, Mr Anderson. A vagary of perception. A temporary construct of a feeble human intellect trying desperately to justify an existence that is without meaning or purpose. And all of it as artificial as DT itself.

BlackInk

I sure hope so. The Dream Theater songs with movements are always my favorites because they are often built on musicality and divetsity. That is what I want from any Dream Theater song.

John94

Not too sure but I think the last 3 songs will be a suite. Just my opinion.

IdoSC

Maybe not literal movements (like TKH/the AA saga songs/ACOS etc), but I think some songs will have a similar structure to Metropolis Pt. 1 (which means the song will have a quite long instrumental section, then JLB will come in again but the outro will sound kinda different).

(In a way, TCOT was split into musical "segments" that aren't actually different movements, just like Metropolis Pt. 1. Can't say the same about ANTR though)

Mosh

I think ANTR had different musical sections. I always see it in 3 parts. 1 is the beginning of course. 2 is beautiful agony, and 3 is the ending. Also, can't we count Shattered Fortress as being a song with movements?

That said, I don't think the new album will have them. The song lengths aren't that big compared to BCASL, and with the exception of the 12 step suite, there hasn't been multiple movements of songs unless they are the big epics like ITPOE and Octavarium.

Using my future vision, I can tell you that there i

It's 50/50, that's cool, I voted no though, but how should we know?

I just assumed it came from a movie or something. Except the DT part.

As long as Jordan is in the band they will write songs with movements.
