Let the polling begin...which of the above do you think is DT's best attempt at a commercial song and explain why below.  This doesnt include all the singles as some of them were quite heavy, long or progressive.  It only includes the shorter 'poppy' sounding songs from each album that are probably considered by some as commercial leaning songs.

Best meaning, best structure, lyrics, music, commercial leaning and how successful you think this song would be if not done by DT.

If there is a song missing from the list let me know and i will amend!

P.S. We need to do something until ADTOE comes out!  ;)

BlackInk

Solitary Shell, because of the lyrics.

wasteland

I would say Another Day, but Wither stands as a close second.

jerome snail

Solitary Shell because it's awesome.
I like IWBY too.

MasterShakezula

Come the Silent Man

Though I'll happily walk beside you, not me, through the solidarity shell, in hollow years, on any other day.

DejaVu

Solitary Shell. Another Day is a close second, however that is sounding quite dated compared to the rest of I&W.

Mbarak

I first thought Hollow Years. The whole acoustic thing appeals to many people. But I also thought the lyrics were too proggy and a bit cryptic for a typical commercial song.

That's why I went with I Walk Besides You. The music is fun and sounds likes something off of top 40. The lyrics also are pretty straight forward happy, up-beat, let's-hold-hands-and-live-together-forever kind of thing.

Gadough

I personally wouldn't include Solitary Shell as an option, since it's technically not a stand-alone song.

My vote definitely goes to Hollow Years, with The Silent Man being a close second.

Jirpo

Another Day, but Hollow Years is very close.

nikatapi

Hollow Years, but i really like Wither and Status Seeker.

alirocker08

Hollow Years, but then again it is one of my favourite DT songs so I'm a bit biased.

Forsaken and IWBY are the two that sound most like songs that were popular at the time they were released, so probably would have fit the category of "most likely to have been hits if they were released by a different band".  IWBY, in particular could have easily been one of those songs that the WB would pimp at the end of a show like One Tree Hill.

Just to clarify for myself, is this meant to be our favorite of the choices, or are we supposed to vote for which one would have been most successful?

I'd consider "These Walls" to be pretty mainstream-sounding.  I got a few people into them with that song.  And its a top 10 DT song for me, so it gets my vote.

Wither, Status Seeker, Another Day, and Hollow Years are all premier DT songs.

MetropolisxPt1

IWBY is could have been a top 10 radio hit

Status Seeker is quite strange... the first half is kind of meh, while the second is absolutely majestic. It's a fairly good occasional listen, though (with KJLB vocals, of course)

Mladen

Wither

Cover my eyes would be incredibly close, though. It's not in the poll for some reason...

It's a fun little song.  I've always found it funny how it sounds like the Rush hit single that was neither.

On a side note, am I the only one here who thinks that Peruvian Skies, mainly the second half, sounds eerily like Metallica?

VioletS16

Very hard to choose between Anna Lee and Through Her Eyes. But I decided Through Her Eyes is better. Although it was very close.

The Presence of Frenemies

Tough call between Another Day, Anna Lee, Forsaken, and Wither. Went with Another Day.

Well, MP himself admitted that Peruvian Skies was heavily influenced by Pink Floyd (first half) and by Metallica (second half). Actually, the group used to play a few Sandman riff at the end of the song during the FII tour, so the pun to that quarter of the big 4 is quite clear and intended!  :lol
