A simple question: What of these Dt-side projects/DT-related bands do you listen to? Albums you have actually bought or tracks you have on your mp3, not just random youtube listenings.

Liquid tension experiment includes also Liquid trio experiment in this case. Spock's Beard might not be that DT related, I just felt like putting it there.

An extra question: If one of those bands/solo projects released a new album tomorrow, which one of those would you want it to be? ^^

I have only 2 LTE albums and one Spock's Beard album at the moment, but I'm looking forward to buy more  ;)

Madman Shepherd

Pretty much only JLB and OSI.  I have the Platypus CDs but rarely listen to them.  I like more aggressive or moody stuff.  never been too big into the prog aspect of DT

Jamesman42

LTE - 1 and 2
JLB - EoP
JR - RoT, Listen, Notes on a Dream
JP - SA
TA - SMPTe, BAF, WW
NM - ;)
\o\ lol /o/

MasterShakezula

I've only listened to LTE.
Which of these others is most like Dream Theater?
Or Rush?

Jamesman42

Like DT?

I dunno...Elements of Persuasion sort of. Neal Morse a little because he has the prog factor. Suspended Animation gets there a bit as well.

Oh, and Notes on a Dream. :neverusethis:

Hm, maybe I'm just uninformed, but how exactly does Spock's Beard quailfy as a DT side project, or even DT related?

Infinite Cactus

My favorites are
1.James LaBrie
2.Derek Sherinian (if it counts)
3.Transatlantic
4.OSI

Well as I said in my first post it really doesnt, i just wanted to put it there  ;D

krands85

Haha yeah WTF

BlackInk

Actually just DT. I don't like taking in to much to many bands in my "life". I don't know why it may be because of my condition or I just don't want to.

Banny

I have listened to all of those listed, but the ones I actively listen to are LTE, JLB/Mullmuzzler, TransAtlantic, Spock's Beard *WTF?*, and Neal Morse.
Every member (even Mangini) has a project on this list... JM does not. Where's the Jelly Jam love?
This poll is strange.

TheGreatPretender

I listen very occasionally to LTE, Pettrucci and Rudess. But mostly, I follow LaBrie's solo work.

nikatapi

I've listened to all of them, but more often i listen to JLB's albums, OSI and LTE.

?

From the side projects I only have the first OSI album.

TheGreatPretender

Oh, I also listen to a bit of Planet X by Derek, why isn't his stuff in the tally?

Mbarak

This poll can also use some Chroma Key. Not a fan but I imagine some here must be.

For me:
LTE - 1 & 2
James Labrie - EoP & SI
OSI - all three

BRGM

What is explorer's club? And is Spock's beard really that DT-related?

Pols Voice

Liquid Tension Experiment - Both albums are very good, but 2 is better.
James LaBrie/Mullmuzzler - Mullmuzzler 2 and EOP. They're good, M2 moreso.
Jordan Rudess - Feeding the Wheel. It's okay.
John Petrucci - Don't have his solo stuff, but I do have the Rudess/Petrucci live album thingamajig.
Explorers Club - Age of Impact. Don't like it.
OSI - All three albums. They're cool, especially Free.
Transatlantic - I love this band and have all three albums.
Neal Morse - One of my favorite musicians. I don't have his last three studio albums, though.
Spock's Beard - Not DT related enough to list, but they're my third all time favorite band.
Planet X - Moonbabies. Pretty good.
Jelly Jam/Platypus - Don't have any. I should probably check them out.

JediKnight1969

Spock's beard should be removed from that list, an add:

Derek Sherinian
Planet X
Platypus
Jelly Jam
Dominici
Kevin Moore
Chroma Key

ZirconBlue

What I own:

Liquid Tension Experiment - Just the first one
James LaBrie/Mullmuzzler - All of them
Explorers Club - Age of Impact.
OSI - Just the first one, so far.
Transatlantic - The first two.
Jelly Jam/Platypus - Both Platypus albums and the first Jelly Jam
Leonardo - The Absolute Man (features JLB)
Frameshift - Unweaving the Rainbow
Ayreon - The Human Equation
Chroma Key - Dead Air for Radios, and You Go Now
Madmen and Sinners (Tim Donohue + JLB)
Roswell Six - Terra Incognita: Beyond the Horizon

What I listen to on a regular basis:

James LaBrie/Mullmuzzler - All of them
OSI - Just the first one, so far.

Chroma Key - Dead Air for Radios, and You Go Now

What I listen to occasionally:
Frameshift - Unweaving the Rainbow
Roswell Six - Terra Incognita: Beyond the Horizon

This poll is kinda crappy. How is Spock's Beard on there, but not Platypus and Jelly Jam? Myung's work outside of DT is the most unique and different from DT than any of the others. Plus, you can actually hear his writing and playing, unlike the last 10 years of DT albums.

Roswell Six - Terra Incognita: Beyond the Horizon

That was lovely!

Not enough LaBrie, but the music is stellar.

Yeah.  Some of the lyrics are a little . . . strained, but overall a good disc.

Ok I will do that, thanks!

I have never heard of some of the bands you listed, to be honest. And those solo projects... well I didnt listen DT back then so I've just ignored them... I never really meant to make a perfect list of every dt-related band/project. I asked what of THESE projects (that I happen to know) do you listen to, just to know which ones are the most popular. Yeah I know, I should do my research better...

You should be able to edit your vote after I fix the poll

weirdo

Sorry guys, couldnt change the amount of votes its still 8... I can only use my phone to edit the poll atm, maybe it would work with a computer...

weirdo

But the list is fixed now and everything is back to zero

ITS TIME FOR A RE-VOTE!

All the above and more.

Pretty much this. I picked "All Of The Above" (get it?), but to be fair and honest, I've not gotten into the Kevin Moore/Chroma Key stuff yet, and my exposure to JLB-related solo stuff is minimal at best, but I've gotten nearly all of JR's solo albums, JP's only solo album and the G3 DVD he's on, some DS-related albums, both Jelly Jam and both Platypus albums, all the LTE and TA stuff, and all the Neal Morse stuff (whether it has MP on it or not, I just love Neal Morse anyways!).
