Scenes From a Memory.  Every moment of that album is great.

SDoIT?  Well, the title track is fantastic, and the rest are...okay.  Honestly, other than the title track, I don't see what people like about that album.

SFaM is an easy pick.

Ditto that. Relistening to 6DOIT recently, I enjoyed the songwriting on the title track but the simplistic drumming ruined it for me.

My opinions on Metropolis, pt. 2 are controversial, even to myself. See, I found it to be an entirely underwhelming album. A number of songs are fantastic on their own (namely "Regression/Overture 1928," with "Strange Deja Vu" paired in there when I'm really in the mood, "Fatal Tragedy," "The Dance of Eternity," and "Finally Free." The Budokan version of "Beyond This Life" is fantastic, and "Home" can be fun when I'm really in the mood) whereas the whole album just feels like a chore to listen to. Interestingly enough, I think I would adore the album if it was released as one long song instead of twelve tracks, or at least if various scenes weren't arbitrarily split up. (And yes, every song I did not mention happens to be one of my least-favourite Dream Theater songs.)

My opinions on Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence are quite uncontroversial, I'd say. I think it's one of the greatest albums of all time, and every song is as close to perfection as they can get. Odd how my opinions are so different for albums released directly next to each other. >.>;

Heretic

Chose SDOIT just because of the sheer magic I feel whilst listening to it. SFAM comes really close, though.

SFAM and Six Degrees are in a constant battle to be my favorite DT album. I voted for Six Degrees though.

This.  Six Degrees connects to me much more.  It also has everything I love about DT!  The experimental stuff, great progressive arrangements etc.  It also shows each DT member right at the top of their game.  Fantastic album.

Couldn't agree more.....Six Degrees ticks every box for me,especially disk two......Absolutely awesome. :tup Still love SFaM though. ;)

My #1 vs my #9, hmm let me see. :P

Six Degrees by about a million miles.
Just curious, why do you rank Scenes so low? Obviously you don't care for it much compared to their other albums, but I'd be interested to know what about it makes you feel that way.
Nothing in particular really, it just doesn't grab me very much. It's still a solid 7/10 album for me, and there are a few very cool songs, but none of the high points are as high as on pretty much all their other albums, and as a whole I find the album just plods along a bit.

My #1 vs. my #8

(SDOIT is my new #1 as of today, I thought about it earlier :lol)

SFAM starts to drag for me around TDOE, and I prefer the music on SDOIT.

MasterShakezula

Honestly, I find that every time I listen to Metro Number 2 , the lower it goes in my DT album rankings.

At first, I really liked it.  Now, it just might be my least favorite.

Meanwhile Six is still my favorite.

King Postwhore

Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence but not by much.

SFAM, by a nipple.

It would probably be 6DOIT if I liked The Great Debate and Misunderstood more, because the other 3 songs on disc 1 are amazing, and I really like the title piece as well.

Victoria's nipple?
Maybe.
Well, I sure hope it's not Nicholas' nipple. Even though those were flashing pretty 'in your face' in the video reel at the live show.

C'mon, vote Six.  It's literally twice the album Metro#2 is.

Yeah, vote 6. Since it's behind for being the inferior album.  ;D

At least Six's songs are memorable, and the lyrics tell interesting stories.

Infinite Cactus

Scenes From a Memory, but both are in the lower middle tier for me.

BlackInk

Not quite the right thread but this wasn't important enough for a new one and it has to do with SDoIT, kinda.

On MP's Ten Degrees of Turbulent Drumming it feels like he kicks the bass drum a little to fast and it gets 'of-beat' (I know no word for that in english) in the beginning of Solitary Shell. Has anyone else noticed this or am I having a stroke?

6DOIT. No brainer for me. On my DT rankings SFAM goes next, but still I like Six Degrees a lot more.

Bill Carson

For me, SDOIT is not quite perfect due to;

Glass Prison:- You could always hear DT's influences but this was the first time that they went beyond that and copied their influences. The Metallica (and less so Megadeth) parts !
Disappear:- God I wish this track would disappear, without the genius of KM I just don't think DT do "mood" that well.

SFAM is a total masterpiece all the way through, end of.

The inspiration for TGP was actually Pantera, so I guess they did a pretty good job of hiding their influence.

Maybe they have said Pantera but you can not tell me that some of the verses are not Metallica, come on its as clear as day !

tedy

Both are great, but SFAM is the one that I usually listen all the way,
the same thing is with I&W.
SDOIT is great album, but for me is not amazing like SFAM and I&W.
Title track is really beautiful, but cd1 is not that good except Blind faith and Disappear.
So my vote goes for SFAM!

ReaperKK

SDOIT, that's just disc 1, I don't even listen to disc 2.
