Simple question.

Still Scenes for me, but it is much closer than it used to be.

Tough one, but I'm going to have to go with SFAM.

I think Scenes From A Memory is the best album in existence. As a whole, from the beginning to end. There are no fillers, it takes you on a journey, from fast and intense parts, to slower, more soulful parts. And the compositions themselves sound great.

dongringo

6DOIT for me. Both are musically brilliant, but much of the lyrics of 6DOIT are personal to me, whereas the story of SFAM is corny imo.

The Letter M

I love the music on SFAM, but the lyrics are a bit out there sometimes. As for SDOIT, the lyrics can be a bit more personal and as a result, thought-provoking in an introspective way, music that questions faith and beliefs and how we handle things like death and illness. Also, SDOIT has the only DT song that can bring me to tears - "Disappear" - and while a song like "The Spirit Carries On" comes close, it's still rooted to the story of the album, and isn't as personal to me because of it, but the music is beautiful... I just think "Disappear" is a bit better.

SDOIT is probably going to remain my favorite DT album for a very long time unless ADTOE turns out to be simply AMAZING and over-powers SDOIT in every way possible, but I'm not sure it can do that!

Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence is my favorite DT album.

SDOIT, but it's pretty close.  Both are good albums.

they both is good but definitely scenes.

by a long shot.

Six Degrees.  I'd say Scenes is one of their better ones, but I do not care for the story.  The music's excellent, though.

SFAM is my #2 on the ranking, while 6DOIT is #3. So, close call but SFAM gets my vote.

Mbarak

That's a tricky one for me. I think SFAM is better but I find myself listening to songs from 6DOIT more frequently, specially Glass Prison, Blind Faith and Disappear.

wammabe

Its extremely close, but I chose Scenes From a Memory because of the orgasmic sounds in Home.

Considering they're both about as good as it can get, and there's just more of one than the other, asking that question is like asking, "Would you rather have sex once or twice today?"

Hence why Six is the only valid option.

Double album = Double the sex ;D

Definitely SDOIT. The first disc is an absolute masterpiece, the second pulls it down quite a bit, though. Still, it easily edges out SFAM, which is one of the weakest DT albums for me.

SFAM and Six Degrees are in a constant battle to be my favorite DT album. I voted for Six Degrees though.

EpicCookie

SFAM for sure. 6DOIT is a nice album don't get me wrong... But it just isn't the same as SFAM.

Purely because nostalgia's coming into play here and Regression was the first DT song I listened to, I'm going to say SFAM. I love the storyline to it, and the idea of reincarnation has always interested me. However, it's probably only because of nostalgia that it rates higher than SDOIT. SDOIT is one of my favourite epics and it speaks a lot to me because of the theme of mental illness. I listened to this album non-stop when I was writing my play about Schizophrenia, it's a very inspiring song with a great message. As for the rest of the album...I sometimes find myself singing Misunderstood when I'm writing.

Then again, that's the case with Finally Free and TSCO. Basically, if it was on musical content alone and how each spoke to me, they'd be equal.

orcus116

If you had asked me when I just started getting into the band I would've said Scenes. I definitely more in the 6 Degrees camp now.

M-boogie

I love SDOIT but i have to go with Scenes from a Memorey,

skydivingninja

6DoiT.  Its my number 2 while Scenes is my number 3.  Both excellent, but 6DoiT is what I will usually turn to for DT nowadays.

stryker

As of right now I'd have to say Scenes.  It's very close though!  I really love both albums!

ghostnotes

SFAM easily, although disc 1 of SDoIT is the one I reach for when I'm in the mood for DT here recently.  SDoIT itself (the song, disc 2) tried to be another SFAM, which simply can't be duplicated.  DT shocked everyone with SFAM - possibly the greatest post-70s rock opera.  Certainly a crowning achievement.

Screw that. It was the greatest EVER. The 70's ain't got nothing on SFAM.

Oh my god.

While SDOIT has more replayability and wider range of ideas, SFAM trumps it as a complete package, has better flow and hits me in a more emotionally resonant way.

If I had to change one thing about SDOIT, it would be to spread the heaviness of TGP throughout the album. You have this crunchy, all-out metal bombardment to start the album, but is never followed through with another metal moment. Not saying TGP is the best on the album, but the energy of that song is unmatched by the rest of the album. SFAM, on the other hand, spreads out the riffage more evenly and is better paced.

Plus, SDOIT has Blind Faith, the one standout "average by DT's standard" track among the greatness of Disc 1.
