I'm still loving OTBOA and the more I listen to it the more I look forward to September 13th.  :metal OTBOA is a just a taste of the new DT album, but I was just curious to see how the sound of it has affected our feelings toward the album.

So has OTBOA risen your expectations through the roof? or did it put you on the edge a little?

As I stated earlier, it has made me much more excited for ADTOE.

Jamesman42

More, because it probably won't be the most well-liked track I'm betting
\o\ lol /o/

ricky

how can we possibly judge an entire album by simply one song?

Vajra

It got me more excited. I thought the last two singles "Constant Motion" and "A Rite of Passage" were the weakest songs off each of their albums, and I'm trying to stay in the hopeful mindset that the trend continues. Why? Because "OTBOA" sounded fucking fantastic, and if the trend of singles being the worst off the album continues, then that means the rest of the songs off ADTOE will have to be astonishingly amazing.

No one asked you to judge the album.  OP asked how the song affected our excitement levels.  You don't need to judge something in order to determine how excited you are for it.

@OP: It made me much more excited.

I always had high expectations, my expectations remain the same.

Are they thuper high?

Zook

More excited. Me wants some classic Dream Theater.

Dream Team

About the same. The thing I'm worried about is a lack of James' upper register.

I'm not asking you to judge the album. Simply asking if any feelings have changed since the release of OTBOA. I know when I first heard OTBOA I immediately started feeling more excited about the album just by the sound of it. If you feel this way vote "no different" and that's the end of it. That's why the option is there.

And this. Maybe the question is kind of misleading, but I hope the majority get the gist of what I was implying.

SystematicThought

More excited. I loved the first 'single' off of the album and that is not very common. This album has got to contain some awesome riffs and has some great things going for it. Absolutely pumped now.

TheGreatPretender

No different. I had a feeling they'd go for more classic, melodic feel. That confirmed it. So I'm staying optimistic.

More excited, since i am used seeing the singles being the weakest songs on the last few albums.
Given i really like OTBOA, i expect the album to be at least very good.

rumborak

I have to be honest, I've had very little drive to listen to OTBOA since its release. So, I'm kinda hoping that it will be like BCSL where they chose a tune I didn't like that much in the end anyway as the single.

Lowdz

Voted No difference but only because I can't get any more excited at the prospect of new DT whether I'd heard a track in advance or not.

Metropolis Pt. II

Like others have said, it's impossible to judge an album by a single from it. OTBOA is most likely more straightforward than the rest of the album since it was chosen as the single. However, I feel like we might be getting something along the lines of 8VM, only without so much influence from other bands.

This, I think I've heard it 1 1/2 times since it's release...

Guitalguy

If the overall feeling of the album is the same as OTBoA, I'm more than happy. I love the feel, the sound, the classical DT elements, everything. And if this is the weakest track, like the previous singles, I'm really happy.

I've been over-listening the song, but I don't seem to get tired of it. It has so much about that I like, and has become one of my fav DT songs, in fact. JM said in the interview that he listens to it every night and doesn't get tired of it, so I'm surprised if the rest of the album will be any worse than OTBoA.  :D

MasterShakezula

Um, I haven't heard OTBOA yet, because I don't like to listen to pre-album singles.  It feels like I'd be spoiling it by doing so.

I don't think that's totally fair.

Here's my opinion, comparing their singles with the rest of the songs on their respective albums:

Good singles: Hollow Years, Home, Through Her Eyes, As I Am, Constant Motion
OK singles: Pull Me Under, Take The Time, The Silent Man, Lie, Forsaken, Wither
Bad singles: Status Seeker, Afterlife, Another Day, Caught in a Web, Burning My Soul, You Not Me, A Rite of Passage

It's pretty evenly distributed.

I still get a woody every time I play OTBoA.

Cannot wait for the album release.   Gonna birthday gift it to myself so I wont feel as bad about turning 44 on 9/14/11.

You, sir, have incredible patience and self control.

I wouldn't go as far as to say it gives me a woody, but it sure does give me a buzz.

Yeah same with me! :)

Dublagent66

I've heard it twice and all I can say at this point is "very predictable".  But, that could change when I hear the entire album.  I guess I'm a little worried.

PixelDream

I was really into the track when they released it, I think I've given it about 20-25 listens. Then I suddenly stopped listening to it. Don't know why, I think the track is pretty good, it's long lived. I most definately like the musical direction they're taking; another album like SC or BCSL would've been too much, although there's good stuff on both. Seems like the right timing in their career to delve back into their roots, and that's exactly what they did with OTBoA.

Sorry, I should've added a "haven't listen to it yet option".  :)

EDIT: I didn't realize you could edit a poll till now, so I added it.

CrimsonSunrise

I'm optimistic....  When I think of recent releases of singles prior too the album, OTBoA's whoops ass on them, so thinking in kind, the album should be better (crosses fingers)
