The Silent Man is no longer silent. :)

I hope no one else has made that joke already...

Well, you could say he's Awake
Maybe its because images and words are running through his head.

Now that MP's gone I guess Myung is in charge in the rythm section. Not that Mangini's less of a drummer than MP, but he's kinda new at the game. No wonder they push forward what is their strong and secure sides.

I think the drums are a bit too low on this song, but maybe it's just the youtube sound quality or something. We'll see in september..

Yeah I think the drums are a bit quiet.  Maybe it shows how much of a hold MP had on the mixing in the past?  I think its a good thing they're down a bit, though.

I've listened to the song several times now. Could someone tell me where this bass solo is? I haven't yet noticed it... I love that I can hear him now in general, even on my crappy laptop speakers! Before he was still sometimes inaudible even on my noise-cancelling headphones, which absolutely pump bass.

Eh?  Does a 2 second part really count as a solo?  I mean, if the guitar did that, we'd never call it a solo, but I guess since a bass guitar so rarely gets a solo, that when one does something like that, it is somehow called one.

Regardless, he definitely sounds really good on this tune. :tup :tup

Honestly, I can hear him all the way up to and including Octavarium. It's the SC and BC&SL era where his bass got pushed wayyy to far back. Sure it got harder to hear him after SDoIT, but it was still there. Especially on BC&SL, I forget there is even a bass player when I listen to it.

This. This. This.

Even on a few songs on SC & BC&SL you can hear him especially on the quieter parts. Despite OTBOA, though, I don't think that, mixwise, it's going to go back to the pre-SFAM era for Myung again.

Also +1 to the 'drums are quieter' observation.

Myung might really open up on this new album. Everyone on OtBoA is 100% present.

Sketchy

It's where it gets to 7:25 on Breaking All Illusions, and everyone's given up hope of another Myung solo, and suddenly there's a five minute bass solo, followed by "heh, I've always wanted to do that."

Tunnel Vision

Try listening to the OTBOA vid that is on Dream Theater's youtube page (Not Roadrunner's page with 900K views). I think that version has a little bit better mix it seems.

I can only hope that IF he has a longer bass solo on the new album he'll do a bass solo at the same time he does a bass solo
