Will you listen to the Single tomorrow or will you wait for the whole album?

So...well i do not have to think about it.. i will play/repeat it until the album comes out.
heck i'll even put it on my phone so i can listen to it whereever i can (not the shower or toilet though).

new melodies (vocals)

new synth sounds.......and even
maybe we hear a bass!

Every new album I say I'm gonna wait until release day to listen, but then I get too excited when the single comes out that I always break down and listen.

i have to agree with a few posts back...singles can be overkill..

you know that's hte only thing you will hear till sept 13...so you play it over and over again...and than when the albums comes out ..that's the track you will skip because you already heard it till death....
so yes a week full on and than totally forget about the song..

Seriously, I don't think you can wear a good DT song out so easily... When driving (which I do quite a bit) I listen to very little other than DT and I haven't gotten tired of a single song I like (even started liking some I didn't...)

This. I wanted to only listen a couple times, but I know I won't be able to resist listening to it more  . Besides, since they're revealing the first song, I feel a little less guilty, since it'll feel less like listening to a single in the middle of an album.

It stems from a genuine desire, though - part of me genuinely does want to keep it pristine. As soon as I hear it, I'll go "I do not want to ruin you. I just want to cuddle you and kiss you and let you sleep." It's a very real battle - two parts of my mind duking it out between each other, and I won't want to let the lovely sensible part admit defeat that easily.

The only thing is - I wonder if "novelty value" is time-related or play-related. I've got albums I've only listened to twice that have lost their novelty value a while back. So... maybe it's best to churn all of the rose-tinted goodness out of that song before it becomes ordinary?

For all I know, the sensible part of my mind is fighting from a flawed position. In which case... psssh!

This really hampered Systematic Chaos for me - seeing as they'd released Constant Motion, The Dark Eternal Night and Forsaken. I only listened to Forsaken once before the album, but there was still this twenty-minute deluge of "heard it..." The first track doesn't have that so much. You don't have to wade through it, it's more of a prelude.

I did refuse to listen to A Nightmare to Remember the day before BCSL came out. They were playing it on the actual real life radio, and I didn't want to spoil too many surprises. I'm certainly gonna spoil the hell out of this single, though.

I'll wait. I really wanna hear it but then after it's over I'm gonna really wanna hear more from the album so I think it's easier to just resist temptation altogether.

I realize they'll probably release another song before September or at least make it available for listening in some form but I guess I don't like feeling like the album is "that one song" plus "all the others" since I figure I'd end up listening to the pre-release track(s) a hell of a lot in order to satiate my anticipation.

The only remaining option is to go the way of the leak. I'm not against that altogether but I have a few issues. First, there can be numerous differences from the leak to the final copy(production value, arrangements, track titles, track order, flute solos.) Also, it destroys the Christmas morning vibe of release day(with Octavarium, simply making it through the first four tracks accomplished the same even though I bought it.)



Fwiw I won't be doing the leak and will just hold off till the release.
