Yes, if Dream Theater was an unknown band on some random tiny label that might be how it's done. But they're not and this is RoadRunner, things are done with a little more preparation, or at least I'd hope they are.

What I'm saying is, there is no need for preparation. The mastering was probably done to schedule.  Finish album on today's date, release the single the following day.  It's not like mastering is a floating time frame.  They book that session and get it done on time and on budget.  

All it takes from finish of master to youtube is export file, upload to youtube.  I'm sure that idea was conceived before the song was even mastered.

-DT's singles are usually among the poorest of the album.

on the other hand...

-DT's opening tracks are usually among the best of the album.

It seems like the chances of this song being good is 50/50.

I'm in the club of people who will be stuck at work all day and can't listen till I get home (about 5:00pm) DAMMIT!! There will be a thread about it (or this one continued) for about 37 pages by then!!!  I was so surprised by this news and i hope to be just as surprised by the awesomeness of this new song!

I'm also in the camp of people who think that whatever snippet of art we have seen may just be for this single.  I think full album art may be later still.  As for what they show on the Youtube video - it will be artwork for this song, and probably the new promo shots of the guys (interior album booklet art??)

So yeah, 22 hours and counting till I hear it....

Initially, I was thinking the same thing. But if it were the tail, the Majesty symbol would be at a really weird angle, meaning the plane would have to be tilted away from the perspective of the picture (assuming the majesty symbol isn't intentionally distorted). If it were, then it would be a pretty misshapen tail (seems to be too long to me). It might make more sense if it were the underside of the right wing. That would be a more appropriate shape given the angle. Then again, I'm no expert on planes or the physics involved with perspective.

The more I think of it though the less I'm excited. I don't know why. Maybe it's because this was my least favourite title on the album.
