This song, along with Raise The Knife are both better than most of the stuff on FII, and it's a damn shame they weren't included on the album.
I agree, and this live version in particular is still amazing.

Don't know if this has been discussed before, but I was just listening to this version of Speak to Me that Jordan Rudess did, and does he not insert a part of "Axel F" (Bevery Hills Cop) right here?

And yes, Speak to Me is an awesome song.

I absolutely love the fan club version of Speak To Me. I must of played it on repeat hundreds of times. Really resonated with me both musically and lyrically.

I've been listening to this running order for FII this week. I think this would be my favorite DT album if it were an actual release:

1. New Millennium
2. Speak to Me*
3. Raise the Knife*
4. Hollow Years
5. Hell's Kitchen
6. Lines in the Sand
7. Take Away My Pain
8. The Way It Used To Be*
9. Trial of Tears

*Demo versions. All other tracks album version.

One of the biggest disappointments in the history of DT is that they never recorded a proper, fully produced studio version of Speak to Me. I think it would have been really interesting to see what Kevin Shirly did with it (though I'd hope it would have still retained the The Cure/U2 atmosphere).

Removing YNM, BMS and Anna Lee makes the album worse.  Removing Peruvian Skies and JLMB improves it.  Adding RTK would be OK, but the other reject tracks do nothing for me.  I know this is an appreciation thread, but I listened to StM just now for the first time in years, and wow....  I can understand why it wasn't included.

I wonder if anybody actually saw this post/listened to the clips!

I did (which is what led me to listen to the song proper prior to my last post).  I really didn't care for JR's adaptation, and I only listened once to each clip.  It may have been a similar progression, but I doubt he lifted from the movie song.
