I really hope there is no epic and that there is an instrumental.

Has anyone thought of the idea that ADTOE might be a double album?

They would have announced it already. It'd be nice though.

That'd mean that disc one would have four songs and disc five would have five songs (something like that anyway). Meaning that the average track length could potentially be around fifteen minutes. I dunno, I feel like it's been done already.

Edit: Nevermind. Double album? Doubt it, it would have been part of the announcement imo.

Yeah, I think the track numbering would look different, were it a double album.

DISC ONE
1. On the Backs of Angels
2. Build Me Up, Break Me Down

DISC TWO
1. Lost Not Forgotten
2. This is the Life
3. The Shaman's Trance
4. Outcry
5. Far from Heaven
6. Breaking All Illusions
7. Beneath the Surface

...or whatever.

(This is in a universe where Build Me Up, Break Me Down is fucking enormous, for the record.)

I can see your guys' point about them announcing it as a double album, but I have never witnessed the announcement of a double album, since I was a fan following the release of Octavarium. When they announced SDOIT to be released, did it include the two-dsic tracklisting that we know of today?

Yes.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on December 11, 2014, 08:19:46 PMHef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Good to know.

This just occurred to me while reading the thread about the track lengths... I wouldn't mind if the last song was a shorter song and had a lighter, almost acoustic arrangement. It would be a nice change to the mostly bombastic album enders DT had for the last ten years imo.

I have only one question regarding the new album.

Stems.

BC&SL limited edition included a "producer's disc", containing all songs each split into 6 stems - vocals, guitar, solo, keys, bass, drums. It was a great thing for musicians and people like me, who just like to play with sound. Thanks to the stems, I could make a much more dynamic mix of the album, not suffering from the loudness war, increasing the clarity of keys and bass, making the kickdrum more prominent and other stuff like that.

I have got so much used to doing that, my mind can't comprehend a new DT album without the stems. Have you guys heard anything about that?

Long time away and so much has happened in a month  I love the album title, as everything has been a dramatic turn of events for all of us fans and the band, great that there are more tracks than BC&SL, roll on Sept!

Question - How did you pull this off?  The improvements you made to the sound are virtually the same as my complaints about it.  I tried to do some stuff with the mixes to make them more clear but it never worked.  The bass in particular ended up being too present or too bassy to sound good.

Psy

To be honest, the BC&SL stems were kinda poor because they were still compressed. Would be far better if they provided the source audio as is.

Could you upload some of your remixes? I'd love to hear it. Like Reapsta, I'd tried it myself, but never got what I wanted.

There used to be a subforum here for the Black Clouds remixes, so I'm pretty sure it's allowed.

Well, my improvements aren't _that_ good, so don't expect much from this :blush My description might have been a little misleading ;)

Maybe it shouldn't be called an improvement, but simply a custom version of some sort. It's most likely too bassy, with too much treble and a million other stuff you could complain about (like the guitar ;)), but... I love it much, much more than the original CD. And my speakers are pretty bad ;)

Here's a few minute sample: https://przygarnij.e-net24.pl/_Shattered_Fortress_sample.mp3 (I'm on a slow network, so it would take ages to upload anything longer and/or better quality).

What happened to this subforum? There must have been many interesting thing there, and I only heard two versions, posted ages ago on some audio oriented forum.

I enjoyed just listening to the isolated tracks, withour even mixing. Especially Jordans keyboard parts, some of them are just beautiful as they are, without the other instruments or vocals.

Well Classic Rock Presents Prog says the new album is very, very impressive.  Rich Wilson has also heard it  :)  Why don't I work for them?  :'(

Quote from: Rich WilsonWell they deserve some success with this album. It's a real grower and I think they've achieved what  they were aiming to produce - a "classic Dream Theater album". Of course we'd all like Mike there behind the kit, and in a funny way it almost feels disloyal for me to be liking this album, but you won't be disappointed. Beneath The Surface is one of the most beautiful things they've ever written.
