Just to toot my own horn, was looking through the "make up your own eleventh album" thread, and check it out...

Just IMO, of course. And, as a gesture of goodwill, here is my awful attempt for you to - quite rightly - rip the living shite out of.

DREAM THEATER - The Truth
1. The Speed of Light
2. Lock and Key
3. One of the Family
4. Under the Surface
5. Spiralling
6. Surgical Gloves
7. The Sandstorm
Soooooo close!

Do you think that they trolled the forums and took some of the album titles from here?  it's entirely possible lol

um.

what?

look in a dictionary, words existed before the internet bro

ubit

Totally not digging the album title, and props to the creator of the brilliant fake artwork involving the Lemony Snicket parody.  That's EXACTLY what I thought of when I heard the title, hence why I can't enjoy this news; Jim Carrey keeps invading my mind and it is awful.

I think that the track list is completely and utterly different from their norm, which as others have alluded to, may be a cool thing (and signify their change in direction post-Portnoy era).  I kind of like their formula though, I hope it doesn't change drastically.  My favorite bands are all either changing too much or disbanding lately... crossing my fingers for a DT albums that makes me secure in their future.   :metal

Hi everyone. First post. I'm a total DT noob.

I'm wondering...do you think "This is the life" is a Living Colour cover? It's a great song, and I could see DT doing something really beautiful with it. If you want to hear it, "This is the life" is on the "Time's Up" CD. Or, you can listen to it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6okNaPSRdlI

Do you really think DT would put a cover on the standard version of their album?

I don't have any idea.  ::)  As my original post clearly states, I'm a DT noob.  :lol

Welcome to DTF!  :metal It's not DT's style to put a cover tune on a standard studio album, only original material. Interesting you thought of that song though. So the song title has already been done. Oh well. Again, Welcome! Hope you have fun here.  :)

Hello Ferd!!! Your nick looks like Deep Purple, but sounds different ;)
Some news from yesterday? We only got e-mail with some maybe part of the artwork... shit, more more  :metal :metal :yarr :xbones

ubit

More midnight news would be pretty cool about right now.  I would like some artwork, some track times, and some insight into the feel of the album, maybe in relation to past albums.

But alas, this will likely not happen.

The Silent Cody

Welcome Ubit!!
I see that this thread, and the news about new album brings DTF a lot of new members ;) Anyway, I had  a dream today about THE NEWS ! ;) So, I was dreaming about seeing on DT.net news about the length of the tracks, and it was 2CD my dear Ladies & Gentlemen ;) I don't remember the length of any of the songs,...

ubit

I swear TO GOD, I signed up like 2 days before the news broke.  I'm in pre-DTLP11 breaking news.

It never occurred to me until you made that statement though, that maybe I am the reason this news broke.  It happened the same time I was accepted by the DT moderation team.
You're welcome everyone.

;)

I was thinking the same thing, as far as NP goes.  A few of the song titles made me think of RUSH.

Some correlations with Rush songs, either wordplay or potential song themes.  I realize a couple of these are a total fail...but I had to do it.
1. On the Backs of Angels
"Workin' Them Angels"

2. Build Me Up, Break Me Down
"Double Agent"??? (This is the weakest correlation)

3. Lost Not Forgotten
"Losing It", "Making Memories", "Afterimage"

4. This is the Life
"You Bet Your Life"

5. The Shaman's Trance
"Tai Shan", ("I think I'm going bald" - weak joke)

6. Outcry
"Far Cry"

7. Far From Heaven
"Heresy"

8. Breaking All Illusions
"Open Secrets", "Presto"

9. Beneath The Surface
"Beneath, Between & Behind"

The band Tiles has a song called Beneath the Surface (awesome song BTW  :metal ).

tri.ad

Looking at the banner with the album name that has been posted somewhere on the last two pages, I wouldn't mind an album cover with lighter and brighter colours at all. Hopefully this information will be released soon...

I've actually come to really like the new album title. I can see how it is being interpreted as a bit cheezy in the light of the events the band has been in the last year, but on it's own it seems really bad ass. surely i'm not the only one?

I think a cheesy title would be along the lines of "Our Tragic Loss" or something like that - which they'd never do, but you get the idea. A Dramatic Turn of Events is pretty cool - a little cheeky, acknowledging the unignorable situation with a little whimsy. "Christ, that was dramatic!"

eosforum

Any news on the new info JP mentioned that would be found on DT.net this morning?

Nope, as far as I know, the most we got was an email from them with yesterday's info and what seems to be the top part of the album cover (my sig)

jonny108

Yep but there should be something coming this morning surely.

FretMuppet

jonny108

Well this morning I mean America mornings.  It's nearly 12pm for me, so something should be out in the next 4 to 5 hours I think  :)

FretMuppet

I get it now lol, I woke up yesterday to see the news of the tracklist so I was thinking that the new news was going to arrive the same time the next day  :P

DP_Gumby

Is it just me or does A Dramatic Turn of Events have similar "flow" like Pink Floyd's A Momentary Lapse of Reason?  :rollin

It does remind me of the lack of updates we were experiencing in the last couple of months, up until the MM announcement.

Hmm, maybe that's what they should have called the new album instead..

Sir GuitarCozmo

Don't know if it's been mentioned and I'm not wading through 15 pages to find out.  The album title is so ridiculously appropriate for the goings on in the last year.  MP leaving was a dramatic turn of events.  'Nuff said.

Imagine a quote pyramid consisting entirely of me quoting myself saying I love Zook.

Now, imagine you're standing on that pyramid in these sorta Sun God robes, while millions of naked women are screaming and throwing tiny pickles at you.

Dream Team

9 songs from an inspired John Petrucci - I think ADTOE is going to be a guitar fan's wet dream. Who's with me?

Well there wasn't anything in that email that said that was the top part of the album art, looks more like a quickly thrown together graphic for promotional purposes.

9 songs from an equally reinvigorated Jordan Rudess.
9 songs containing input (both musical and LYRICAL) from John Myung, an until now silenced genius.
9 songs with the powerhouse Mike Mangini, who has finally found his musical home, on drums.

But most importantly 9 songs from a band which has something to prove for the first time in almost 15 years. Bring it on.

Also, first post. S'up fell DT fans?
