I am still trying to decide what I prefer. I know I prefer the original Another Day mix. IDK about the others yet

SystematicThought

The originals all the way. As much as it was outdated, the triggered drums add to the tracks and make Images and Words a memorbable album and add character. The remix takes away that magic

ZirconBlue

Remixes all the way.  Drums with actual dynamics FTW.

Orbert

Original, but only because I never listen to the new versions.  I bought the album because I'm a completist that way, but after listening to it in the car a few times, it's sat in my CD rack ever since.  Also, I honestly didn't hear much difference, certainly not enough to form a strong preference.  I didn't even realize that the snare on I&W was triggered until it was pointed out to me.

The more polished sounds of the remixes (though not THAT different) are really great.

Undecided, though. It's nice to have both versions, that's the point, to me anyway.

Original of PME and Another Day but I prefer the TTT remix.

I always thought those remixes sounded cheap or amateurish in regards to production. It sounds like a mix I would make in about an hour, and I suck at mixing. The originals have that extra polish to them that gives them the professional sound. Plus I like the "dated" production sound of that album.

Also, what's up with the reverb/delay on Jame's vocals? I know he always has a lot of reverb, but it's so excessive on these three remixes. It's particularly obvious/annoying on Take the Time and Another Day, for me. That was the first gripe I had with those remixes when I heard them the first time.

About what I like...well I can appreciate the more modern take on these tracks even if I think the execution wasn't the greatest. I also like how Pull Me Under and Take the Time sound with the guitar mixed the way it is, it's a little less mid-deprived and the sound has more balls.

I'm so used to the original mixes, that I can't prefer the remixes, although I usually don't care for triggered drums.

The original. The triggered snare fits absolutely perfectly in the original mix, whereas the drums in the remix feel hastily tacked on. They don't really fit at all.

The Silent Cody

I'm listening to remixes now actually, and I must say that it sucks a little  ;) I totally prefer original versions, it has that magic atmosphere of Images & Words album that any other album does not have. Remixes also haven't ;)

I don't mind the remixes, I guess they make things sound a lot clearer, but I'd go with originals.  JP's tone in PMU sounds so cheap and thin on the remix for some reason.

The remixes are thin, mushy messes with even worse drum triggering than the originals. At least the originals had power.

The chug before the first verse in PMU is just laughable, sounds so weak. (On the remix that is.)

Perpetual Change

I'm listening to them all now, just to see.

The first one minute of the Pull Me Under remix is a lot better than the original. Myung's harmonics sound great. Petrucci's entrance is so underwhelming, though, compared to the original...  In fact, Petrucci's tone is the biggest issue with these remixes. It just sounds cardboard and has no bite to it at all. The way the guitar solo slightly fades-in in the remix of Another Day rather than just entering at the original volume really kills the magic of the original solo. Myung's bass being so low in Take the Time is a crime against God. James' vocals sound about the same here, though you can hear the "puddle of reverb" under his voice which makes this remix sound pretty unprofessional.

Kevin's keyboards are pulled up a bit on multiple tracks, which does the songs injustice-- Kev's keyboard parts where amateur sounding at times, and Prater was right to have buried them in the places where he did. I'm actually jarred hearing what he played in some parts of these songs, just as I was jarred at his performance on the Live in New York official boot.

Overall, parts of it sound better than the original, but there are some glaring issues, especially Petrucci's guitar and the inconsistent volume issues. Shirley's usually good, so I don't know what happened here. I'm sure he could do a better job than he did, at the job he did here seems rushed and budgeted at best (at least, I hope that's what happened). I would not want to here an entire remixed album of this quality.

I'm pretty much indifferent about Another Day, but I prefer the remixes of the other two... Take The Time is one of my favourte DT songs and I always listen to the remix version.

theusualmadness

Original mixes is better. The remix "Greatest Hit" album lost its original dynamics.

PixelDream

It's deciding between the original, polished, open mix/master and the new, metalled up, overcompressed remixes/masters. I'll pick the first one. And the snare isn't an issue, because I like it a lot better than the one on the remixes. IMO the remixes were completely unneccesary.

Pull me Under Remix is better than original IMO
