I am surprised that so many people do not like Erotomania or the Dance of Eternity

To me, Scenes From A Memory doesn't have a single bad song on it. It's essentially a perfect album, but if I rated the songs, TDOE would be last.

Haha this wasn't so much personal feelings as much as general consensus I was speaking for, however I do like TtT a lot more than I used to.  UaGM still hasn't done much for me.  But, since I've seen it listed extremely high on "best DT song" lists, I figured it made my point stronger.  :-)

Every time I look at this thread a part of me dies. Not because figuring out the Acronyms for songs takes a while for me, but because I'm seeing Space Dye Vest too much.

The release of Parasomnia had me thinking about this topic, and I managed to find this thread through a search...since it seems as if several albums have dropped since it was last interacted with, I'm curious how people's opinions have either changed over time or which ones on the later albums don't really speak to people.

I have had at least one song on every single studio album that doesn't click with me for whatever reason, and even though I've heard some of these literally hundreds of times, to this day these are the ones that simply don't "stick":

WDaDU: The Ones Who Help to Set the Sun (fun fact- this is the worst song in their entire catalogue to me; it is the single song that I find ZERO redeeming quality in)

IaW: (takes deep breath) Under a Glass Moon

Awake: (takes another deep breath) Scarred

FII: Just Let Me Breathe

Scenes: for the longest time, it was Dance of Eternity. I'd still probably give it to that song, even though I've come to appreciate it over the years.

6DoIT: Goodnight Kiss

ToT: (takes a third deep breath) Stream of Consciousness

8V: Never Enough

SC: Repentance (despite having what I'd call a GOD-tier JP solo)

BCaSL: The Best of Times

ADToE: Far from Heaven

S/T: Illumination Theory (12 years later and I still think this is their weakest epic)

TA: I enjoy this record more than most do, but I'd give this slot to either A Better Life or Heaven's Cove

I put the breaths in jest as I know the choices I have would be considered by most to be controversial. But, we like what we like and we don't what we don't. Crazy how music hits people as differently as it does.

An interesting idea, as I could definitely rank the songs on every album, but there are a handful where I consider every song essential.

For instance, I wouldn't cut a single second off of 8VM, and even the song I would probably rank last ("Answer Lies Within") I would prefer to listen to over anything on, say, WDADU.

That said, in keeping with the spirit of this thread:

WDaDU: "The Ones Who Help to Set the Sun" (sure...though, other than "Only a Matter of Time," there is little here I have any desire to revisit)

I&W: "Wait for Sleep"

Awake: "Lie" (but, there are entire albums I would rank below this song)

FII: "You Not Me"

Scenes: "The Dance of Eternity" (has felt 2 minutes too long since the day I bought this)

8V: "Answer Lies Within" (I truly love this song though)

Parasomnia: "A Broken Man" (too monotonous, and the chorus- that is supposed to be the "main" melody of the whole album- is so buried under the rest that it actually "vanishes"...the same melodic line sounds much much better in all the other versions in the disc!)

Systematic Chaos: Repentance (the admissions of guilt and "aaaaaahhhhaaaahhhhh" sections really drag the song down. I love the bass line and the guitar solo is amazing)

Black Clouds: Wither/A Rite of Passage (both very bottom tier DT songs)

ADToE: Build Me Up, Break Me Down (the riff isn't all that bad but the song just comes off so boring)

DT12: Along For the Ride

The Astonishing: Astonishing (maybe not the absolute worst, but it's such a fizzle of a grand finale to a 150 min saga that I'd vote as the most dissatisfying on the album)

D/T: Out of Reach (Room 137 is a very close second with probably the worst DT lyrics of all time, and that's a tough crown to claim)

A View: Awaken the Master (starts off phenomenally then just loses all momentum at the start of the first verse and never gets it back)

Parasomnia: Dead Asleep (not counting Are We Dreaming since it's just an interlude. I still like this song quite a bit, it just doesn't feel interesting enough to fully grab my attention for 11 minutes)
