Honestly, I think this is Mangini at his worst. Talking for eight minutes about how he came up with a two-second fill all by feel. Uhm, okay?

And he makes it needlessly hard to figure out which section this is from because he offers very little context for the bar of music that this is all about.

you had to have that impression, because what he does on that album is interesting and intricate and precise and musical as ever, but it's far less obvious than it is on Dramatic Turn, DT12 and View, but you're right, he did not (although some of his ideas weren't used and these were even further out there than what is on the album https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XT2vy_IaXY)

I thought the same as well. I remember an interview where MM said that he largely improvised the drum part of TA (or at least much more than on the later albums where he was more involved in the writing process).

I really loved Mike Mangini as DT's drummer.  I discovered DT when I first heard On The Backs of Angels just after it was released.  It's still one of my favorite songs.  And man, what a triumph A View From The Top Of The World was!  I'm grateful that was his last album with the band, he ended strong.

And it's good to see everone again

This Vimeo thing is fairly annoying or I am just not understanding it. Apparently you have to pay a monthly subscription fee to have access. I was trying to see if there is a one-time download option but I don't think there is.

The thing is Vimeo has more than a fair price if you are a drummer and want to access all its material for study purposes, but if you just want to purchase an specific material, as a more general music fan, to appreciate it whenever you want, it doesn't make sense to pay monthly and never really own it in any form.

yeah I know that the VLC player (in case you've heard of that one, or not) will do that for you out of the box if you tell it what to do

Well, indeed you can sign it for a month and learn to make all this hard work (it's 17h 31min of material!). I guess it's A LOT of work and in the end it won't have the hightest quality compared to the original source.
C'mon, digital donwload for US$ 30 or 2 blu-rays for US$ 40 and everybody will be really happy!

Here's a good one for the weekend! I recently listened to an interview in which Mike states he actually started out as a Jazz and classical drummer. Apparently he did and won many jazz drum competitions.

Here's a cool different side of Mikes playing with some swing! The signature (quite insane) speed and melodic approach is there but with a different feel from what he's known for in DT or Vai.
