He has openly said he's a Dream Theater fan. Several times. Being a DT fan doesn't have to do anything with his friendship with Mike Portnoy.

It's possible one of the agreements everyone made if they tried out was that they couldn't say anything about it. This is probably fairly likely.

I'm not exactly upset, but I do find it disheartening that Trunk would just throw it out there.  Doesn't he consider DT more than just another band for news fodder?  How's he supposed to sit down for an interview with any of them after leaking the info?  Isn't there more a sense of personal connection?  Does he not care?  Does he not see it as a big deal?

I, for one, really don't care. If Trunk ends up spoiling the surprise, then shame on him for being the person who leaks it. But, I'm not pissed off right now. If it does end up being Mangini or not, I'm still going to be pumped to hear the new DT album and my opinion isn't affected either way (mostly because I've never heard of the drummers that supposedly tried out).
