JLB's last couple solo discs have been very digestible, hopefully he's been free to bring some of that 4/4 metal sound to this new DT project.

I'll be happiest if they tie one of Jordan's hands behind his back. It would improve the sounds of his solo's IMMENSELY.

How about removing one finger from each hand? :D

Dude, no way!  Then we'd get a big, spacey 35-minute continuum solo.

I see no problem with this as long as the show is made 35 minutes longer to accommodate the interlude of awesomeness.

He obviously meant TCoT was like all five of those songs since it's that good.

Couldn't agree more

Can someone please send me the link to his personal FB page? I'm trying to add him but I can't find him....I'm also dumb too lol

DarkLord_Lalinc

Just look for James LaBrie. He should be one of the first contacts to pop up.

A little update from the pirate over on his site:
Hello my good friends.

We are staying really busy. The songs are absolutely killer and you will be admitting it was worth the wait for the announcement of the new drummer and the music. We are all very pumped.

In the meantime go to this link and get the new Eden's Curse disc. plus all other pertinent info.

Take care and I hope you're all doing fine.

My heart goes out to Japan. A spirited recovery.

James.

James makes posts like this a lot and to be honest I'm really not a fan of them. It's like..."Ooh, we said we'd talk to the fans more with Mike gone. I guess I'd better whip up a message even though it basically says absolutely nothing."

Don't get me wrong, I love that he's making an effort to interact with the fans, I just wish he'd say something more substantial.

Hey, it's way, way, waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy better than Portnoy's decision to announce Black Clouds & Silver Linings as an album of "The Glass Prison", "Octavarium", "Metropolis, pt. 1", "A Change of Seasons", and "Learning to Live" (I think I got the song titles right). That was probably one of the biggest gatherer-of-false-hopes that's ever been said. And I don't mean that out of disrespect to that album, but to rile people up by saying the album is like their most classic songs is just silly.

Yeah talk about over hyping an album.  Here is the exact quote...
Quote
Imagine a DT album with A Change Of Seasons, Octavarium, Learning To Live, Pull Me Under and The Glass Prison....all on one album....
I did imagine an album that great and was definitely let down when I purchased it.  The only thing that was close to being accurate was The Glass Prison due to the rehashed nature of TSF.

In any case I'll agree that James isn't saying anything substantial.  But at least he isn't comparing it to past work in the way that Mike did.

Great to hear from JLB.....If only he would let slip the new drummers name.

another update from DT page on FB
"After spending the day today in the studio with the band, i must report that you guys better be good and ready for when this album comes out, because IT- is gonna blow your mind! I'm really excited about what we are creating!"

don't know who posted it though..

dethklok09

Jordan I think, he posted the same thing on his account.

I like how James profile picture is cropped in a way that makes it look like he's peeking over a wall.

I'm officially sold on the idea of this upcoming album being one of their greatest musical accomplishments. I don't ever recall the DT guys ever labeling an upcoming release in such a manner. At least from memory, it's been either "we're really excited for the album... can't wait for the fans to hear it etc." or something like "we had a great time recording this album...".

Super Dude

I mean they're not gonna say "We've done better, but this is still pretty good" or "This won't blow your minds but you should still buy it." :P

Although they haven't said exactly this, if I had a nickel for every time a band said their newest album was their best record to date, they'd be fueling up my private jet right now. :P

In other words, this kind of talk is pretty normal for a band currently in the studio and making new music.  Good to hear things are going well, but I think it would be best for everyone to keep their expectations in check.

atmyne

Well i'm excited for the upcoming release for numerous reasons beyond the puffery in these tweets/FB messages. And I have never followed the events of a band so intricately for such an extended period of time, making it even more exciting.

I think people are mostly just excited about hearing someone other than Mike say they're excited about the music DT is putting out.

This is essentially where I stand. Over the years my musical tastes have changed and I don't listen to DT much anymore but I'm very eager to give this new record a listen because a member leaving will certainly warrant change and I really want to hear what that is.

I really enjoy JLB's solo records but he cannot write lyrics. They are the most cringe worthy lines I've ever heard, in my opinion he doesn't have the knack for it.  He can certainly put together vocal melodies that can really elevate a song but when paying attention to what he is actually saying really detracts from the song.

Indeed, well said.

James has written only one cringe worthy song: Prophets of War.

Me too.  I don't listen to DT much, but I still enjoy some of their stuff from time to time, and I'll always continue to anticipate and check out their new material as long as they're around.  I agree that the shake-up, for better or worse, is exciting.

Prophets of War is the only cringe-worthy song he's written with DT, and some of his others are pretty damn good.  While I'm not THAT familiar with the lyrics on his new solo record, there are definitely some bad lines in there.

But based on the last four albums, I have no reason to believe ANYBODY in DT can write a decent lyric anymore.  I hope they prove me wrong.

Honestly, I've never understood why some people have such disdain for Prophets of War. Is it one of their absolute best songs? No. But there's nothing wrong with it as far as I'm concerned.

Anyway, in spite of being well aware that bands always hype their new records while they're making them, I am super excited about the new DT record. It needs to hit the stores, like, now, so I can go buy a copy or three.

This. It's pretty catchy, and James absolutely rocks on it.  :metal

Ben_Jamin

Yay some love for PoW. I also don't get why its hated on, its a great groovy song that doesn't follow their usual structure and doesn't have a solo.

MirzekDT

Well I don't get the hate for PoW musically at all and lyrically I get it but I don't agree with it. I mean it's not THAT bad lyrically too

Ben_Jamin

The lyrics are well thought out, just because its obvious doesn't mean they're bad. One problem I have though is how unenthusiastic MP sounds in his part, it needs more oomph and powah! I wonder what JLB would have done with that part. The song even has their best experiment with vocals.
