I can see another person there, sure. I will be accepting.

It's not going to be the same, but change is good. Besides, the pattern in their discography dictates that this album will be great. Analyze this:

(In bold are the albums that are absolute favorites/great albums as a whole)

When Dream and Day Unite
Images and Words
Awake

Falling Into Infinity
Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
Train of Thought
Octavarium
Systematic Chaos
Black Clouds & Silver Linings
[New album]

Fix'd.
As long as the new album isn't Falling Into Infinity, it should be golden. :neverusethis:

DarkLord_Lalinc

Desmond Child is going to hunt you at night.

ricky

yah but FIF wasn't that bad.

i kinda liked it. minus you not me. i think even the mods agree with me when i say that song is pretty sh*tty.

DarkLord_Lalinc

Falling into Infinity is a great album. You not Me is not a good song by any means,

Aramatheis

I know FII wasn't that bad, but I honestly believe it's their weakest album.
There's some top notch stuff (Peruvian Skies, TOT, LITS) and then arguably their weakest songs.
Some may argue Systematic Chaos as the worst, but I enjoyed it (I don't care about lyrics; that's why :p)

Love the record. Totally unfairly underrated. You not me is a good song. I don't understand why people hated it just because an outsider write part of it. Shall I hate Deep Purple's "Burn" because was written by non DT members? Love music. That's it.

dongringo

Personally, Falling Into Infinity just doesn't do anything for me, especially You Not Me which is an attempt at commercialism. It's just not what DT does best and they knew it. It's all in the book.

I can't help but imagine a very nassal voice saying "WRONG!" whenever I look at that picture.

And I can't help but wonder if her mom is Fran Drescher.

I'm actually extremely excited about the new drummer. Don't get me wrong, I loved Portnoy and what he brought to the band, his drum parts just seemed to fit so well. Now, I'm sure this has been mentioned countless times by other people on the forum, but I'm really pumped to see DT without Portnoy being the controlling overlord.

I hope the change in drummer brings them more proggy sections and less rap sections. I mean, they kind of grew on me, but the first time I listened to Prophets of War and ANtR, those sections alone ruined the entire song for me.

That pattern doesn't quite work because generally I&W, Awake and Scene's are considered their strongest work/fan favorites.

hey stupid question here, why ACOS is never taken into consideration? seriously.

Ben_Jamin

Because its an EP and not a full length.

Also, only casual listeners will be unaccepting of the new drummer.

Perpetual Change

I, for one, do not plan on accepting the new drummer. The minute he's announce, I'm throwing a bitch fit about how disappointed I am and how there's no hope for the new album. It'll probably get me banned.

I'd think casual listeners would be the most accepting, in virtually all situations with any band, merely because they don't care as much or even know as much to begin with about the band.  For a private example amongst yourselves, imagine a band that you listen to but dont know much about, and then imagine that their guitarist // drummer // bassist left the band... whenever you hear their next album, you probably wont notice the difference (unless a vocalist has changed), at least not by the time you've formed an opinion of the new album.

why wouldn't you he is bound to be killer. If anything I may not accept the band if the new album blows. I just hope they don't go to new metal souinding like James last album.

Ħ

Dude, it's clinks.  AKA the new drummer.  Of course he wants us to lower our standards so he can blow us away later.

Who's the outsider who wrote Burn?
Because my copy of the album has everyone in the band (and no one else) listed as having written the song, although I read that Hughes was (on the original album) not included for writing credits due to some sort of contractual obligations that precluded him from getting the credits.

nah, you not me truly is a horrible song.

you or me, however, is quite orgasmic. desmond child should have never messed with what the song was supposed to be.

Will I be accepting of the new drummer? Yes.
Do I wish Mike was still the drummer? Yes
I would rather have Dream Theater with a new drummer then have Dream Theater be no more.

edited to make some sense.

ReaPsTA

Before any of this went down, I remember listening to EoP and specifically thinking the drumming was good, something that rarely happens.  The only other guys that make me feel that way are Portnoy/Harrison/Peart/etc.  Given that Mangini's in a somewhat special group of guys, I'm excited he's the guy and willing to give him a chance.  Hopefully he fits into DT well.
