Who cares if there's nothing new in that update? It's actually cool to know things are going out just fine in DT land straight from the horse's mouth.

Geez, people.  :-\

Actually, straight from the bear's mouth.  :neverusethis:

What people need to remember, Warner now has control of Roadrunner. We have beat this subject to death. YES, there are legal things going on. Let it play out as it will.

Dublagent66

Well, I don't frequent the forum extremely often, so I haven't been involved in discussions but the legal issues do make sense.

Yeah it's cool to hear from Petrucci himself. It's great to hear that the album is going well and album details etc. etc. but other than that it's pretty much a rehashed version of the last studio update lol even using the same words/phrases/expressions as the last one.  It's reassuring nonetheless. <3 Petrucci :D

I originally thought that the only thing that existed at a bear's mouth was salmon.

Maybe he meant shedding, like wood shedding.

Actually,  I think he may have meant "shredding" and left the "r" out.   :lol

Yeah, I'm fairly certain he meant "shredding."  A term he commonly uses.

Possibly, but "shedding" is also common musician lingo, short for "woodshedding". That's what I thought he meant.

Holy shit, didn't realize JP is such a bad speller :lol

I think it was more of a fruedian slip.

If you think the shedding vs. shredding thing was the only spelling mistake, I must weep for you!

You make it sound like there are spelling mistakes all over the place. I only see (apart from that one) two/three more. :-\

The story ends where it began. It has come full circle.

Does the "tracking" process mean they are in the studio where they did recording right now?  Does tracking involve the presence of a drummer?
An unofficial online community for fans of keyboardist Kevin Moore:

tracking is the same thing as recording.  So yeah, there is definitely a drummer there.

[/quote

Not necessarily. They could be tracking scratch guitar and keyboard tracks at the moment, for which a drummer wouldn't have to be there. But unless they are completely revamping the entire recording process, then a drummer will be there once all of the scratch tracks are finished.

I still consider recording scratch tracks as part of the recording process.  I'm going to go out and say there is definitely a drummer with them at this time.  JP has confirmed they absolutely know who their guy is.  He's there.  No doubt in my mind at this point about that.

Oh I wasn't arguing that scratch tracks are part of the recording process, it totally is. I just meant that there's still a slight possibility that the drummer isn't there if that's what they're doing.

But I hope you're right. :)

Cool, but I want to know more.  Not so much about the new drummer, but maybe a ballpark indication of release date.  What are we looking at, June/July time frame again?

I think we'll be getting it in august/september

Nick

Judging by past records in which the albums came about shortly after the European cycle started, and considering they are a little behind on this one I am personally guessing that they will set the release date a few weeks shy of the start of a full American tour, probably around August.

reo73

If I were to guess I would say we are still a while away until the drummer is announced.  Otherwise why would John feel the need to mention it if they had an announcement ready to go right around the corner.  On the other hand perhaps they are in the dark as to when whoever it is that is not letting them announce will let them announce it.  At his point maybe they are going to announce it with an official announcement about the release and listing of the new album.  Ah Hell...who knows!

Super Dude

August isn't bad at all; that was around the time I was first introduced to DT so I always remember 8VM as being released around then even though I realize it wasn't.
:superdude:

rumborak

BTW, the drummer doesn't have to be there. Look at Gavin Harrison, to my knowledge he records his tracks at his own location.

Did I say Gavin Harrison? Now that's a good rumor!

rumborak

dongringo

Gavin Harrison was the first drummer who came to mind after MP left. But I quickly realized he most likely wouldn't leave PT, nor would I want him to.

tri.ad

^ Exactly. Plus, he's already in a second band (King Crimson), although I don't know how active they are at the moment. GH would be a nice pick (not my favourite, though), but I just can't see it.

Mangini could very well be tearing it up. If JP is excited, I'm excited, no matter who it is.
