I was thinking of this, and I came up with some obvious ones:

Anger - Honor Thy Father
Sadness - Disappear
Fear - Vacant

But I couldn't think one completely happy song. There is probably one out there...maybe Finally Free?

But anyway, name some songs that you think are the best at conveying a certain emotion!

Panic attack - Panic Attack (if you count panic as an emotion)

jsem

sadness.. I was thinking The Best of Times

FretMuppet

Hope - The Answer Lies Within
Sadness/heartbreak - Space Dye Vest & Disappear

You're joking, right?

I think mostly, if not entirely happy songs are Another Day, Take the Time, and Surrounded.  And hell, Learning to Live too.  They deal with serious emotions, but they handle them in a mature and optimistic way, I think.  So that's half of I&W.  Also, The Spirit Carries On and I Walk Beside You.

Hope- The Spirit Carries On, Another Day, Learning to Live

Some crossover with "happy."

Determination- 6:00

Apathy- New Millennium, maybe?

IdoSC

Faith or w/e - The Answer Lies Within
Anger - Burning My Soul (either live or FII demos for the win :D)

Well, I specifically had in mind the upbeat verse where Victoria was going to break up with the Miracle to be with her one true love, the Sleeper.

RuRoRul

Maybe one happy part for Finally Free.

Take The Time possible for happiness. Even though Learning To Live has a positive feel it's not really overly happy. Neither is Take The TIme I suppose but it sounds happier, same with Surrounded.

Honestly for happy though the first thing I think of is the WHAAIM ALIVE AGAIN part of About To Crash Reprise.

Sadness: The only correct answer is Space-Dye Vest

Then 5 seconds later it's depressing.  :lol

Disappear?
This. SDV feels more like whining, Disappear is truly sad.

I would argue that The Best of Times isn't all about sadness. He's mourning the death of his father, yes, but there's a silver lining (:neverusethis:) in that he had such a great relationship with him. He's mourning, but in doing so, he's remembering the good times, and there's some happiness there.

I think Awake covers most of them pretty well. :)

I don't know, Another Day is a pretty sad ballad about death n stuff, LTL is not much better but does have more uplifting moments. Take The Time might, but it's really more just upbeat in musical style, and motivational in lyrics, but not really HAPPY.

Surrounded is clearly the most happy and uplifting, both musically and thematically. Bubbly synth melody, lyrics about finding love, sonically light and easy. It does have those melancholic intro and outros, but only the intro is lyrically sad, the outro flips it around.

Sadness - The Best of Times, Another Day
Loss - Space Dye Vest
Happiness - Take the Time
Panic - Panic Attack
Relief - ANTR.

The happiest DT songs I can think of are New Millennium and Surrounded.

In an artificial way. SDV is infinitely more genuine.

Truth. I remember an interview where James was asked what the meaning behind Disappear was, and it was just a scenario he came up with. Not to say the song isn't touching, because it certainly is. While SDV of course came from Kevin's real-life experience, which I feel just makes it seem/feel a lot more sincere.

Jirpo

I don't really find Disappear that emotional TBH, whereas SDV is very sad :(

Tomislav95

Sadness - Take away my pain
Happiness - About to Crash(maybe?)
Anger - The Mirror
Lonely - Surrounded
Vacant - A Change of Seasons

Ben_Jamin

Sadness/Grief/Hope - The Best Of Times

John94

Victory - Hell's Kitchen

Just listening to the outro makes it feel like you have achieved something momentous.

rumborak

DT is seriously lacking a silly song. Like Rush's "I think I'm going bald" or Genesis' "Counting out time".

I actually respect that about DT.  They don't go for humor...they craft each song with a serious attitude.
