I am aware that this is clearly not going to happen, but would you guys be interested in hearing music done by DT with no drums of any sort?

I think it would be really interesting and would definitely force them to change pace and make creative music again.

What do you guys think?

Going completely without a drummer, no, that wouldn't work for very long.
However, I'd love them to explore a bit more of an acoustic side.

rumborak

?

Doing one album without drums could be an interesting idea, but if they did more drumless albums, it'd become boring. Touring would also be quite difficult without a drummer.

This.  Their experimental side is great, but doing "drum-less" music is pushing the envelope too far.  Although their music is incredibly varied, it is all the time of music where drums and percussion are integral to the sound.

Also, the poll said "with a drummer, which is the exact opposite of the thread title and what you are saying in the thread.  I am assuming it was supposed to read "without," so I edited it.

No, it would get boring and eventually suck...

Because music is shit without drums.

They should get a drummer who only plays bass, snare and hi hat. Then they should switch to all acoustic instruments. And THEN they should all forget how to play fast.

It would be interesting for 1 album. But all the songs would have to be just as awesome as Wait for Sleep  ;)

Aniland

Thanks for making the poll question the exact opposite of the thread title.

Agreed.

dongringo

An album with Zakir Hussein on tabla. Oh yeah!  :metal

Interesting results. Over 70% of DTF (that voted of course) feels that DT should continue without a drummer. I wonder how this will bode for the welcoming (or lack thereof) of the new drummer.

This.  I seem to remember before MP's departure suggesting on this board that they do an acoustic album.

+1. I'm not just sucking up to Bosky, but I agree.

Drumming is an incredibly important side to DT's music. Whether you like him or not, MP was definitely a skilled practitioner of his instrument, which is proved by his ability to stay in a band as complex as DT's for so long.

I like the idea of going acoustic, but that would work for maybe one song...two would be pushing it. The idea of not having a drummer is, in my opinion, not feasible.

So to answer your question, "Should DT go on without a drummer?" is...

um no?

xShammas

They definitely need a drummer. It's cool for them do a drum-less song every once in a while, but not completely forgo a drummer. It just takes away too much of the energy.

Seriously, can you imagine Metropolis without drums?

That would suck!

Jirpo

Drums are vital, especially to the heavy parts!

GuineaPig

They have a drummer.

They just haven't let us know who he is yet.

I don't think the poll carries any validity, because of people like myself who voted too quickly after reading the thread title vs. others who actually read what the poll said.

Dublagent66

Yeah sure, then the guitars and keyboards will follow and James will be a one man band with his tambourine.

Tomislav95

I can't imagine metal without drums  :-\

Well I voted wrong for starters.  The question confused me and I voted the wrong way round haha.

No, for the reasons already mentioned.

KevShmev

No.

Doing more acoustic stuff or the occasional song with a drum loop from Rudess' keyboard, sure, but to go without a drummer altogether?  Absolutely not.
