To be honest with the fans in one thing, using this to give discredit on others people is a whole different world.

Is it usefull saying they're not responding emails or calls?. I don't think so. Sure enough it's not a good thing at all, if it's true, for Mike but why he has to tell it to the entire world?!.

DarkLord_Lalinc

Yup. MP's wording has not been adecuate ever since this drama has been taking place. The only things I've been getting from his posts are...

"I was in charge of everything DT-related. Remember those leather pants James wore in Live at Budokan? That was my making. "
"The guys don't answer my calls. They're the bad guys, I'm the one who speaks his mind out and goes to great extent to please you guys."
"Don't f*ck my wife in the house I built, please"

And concurring with the post above me, it would be wise to keep private things private(as I think was already suggested by Marlene at some point).

Ben_Jamin

Yup, being OCD doesn't help either.

phentalmyst

i think that was A7X's point on the issue as well...

DarkLord_Lalinc

Also mang, it's not like it's very hard to pick a nice show with a nice setlist, mix it like any other live album (probably on a lower budget) and make some artwork for it. That's not much of a big deal.

John's side of the YJR Production team consisted of dealing with the manufacturing factory and staying on top of the payments and deliverys after I produced all of the titles...

sounds like JP got the worse end of the work.

this is bummer news, though sadly not too surprising

See I don't know if it's my natural optimism or others' natural cynicism or a bit of both, but I don't get that vibe at all. I read it as "It looks like the YJR stuff is on hold right now, but just to let everyone know I'm happy for it to continue and have even tried to contact the guys about it". Let's face it, if it went on long enough without him saying something, people would inevitably start speculating that he was refusing to give DT the rights or the material.

But yeah, obviously he's pretty bad at wording things, but what's new there? :lol

Cool Chris

I wonder, deep down, how Mike feels about any more older ytsejam stuff being released. It doesn't benefit him at all, unless he thinks people are going to say "Damn, DT with Mike rocked, I miss him /Sad Panda"

When it was first announced that Mike was out of the band, my first reaction was, "Oh no!  What is this going to do to the Ytsejam releases?"

That was your first thought??

This is such a minor detail to me. DT are moving forward with a positive attitude and have gotten a lot of fans more psyched for a new album than they have been in a while. There is a wealth of material out there, both official and unofficial, for any fan of the band to be appreciative of.

Quote from: bösk1 on February 24, 2011, 09:07:04 AM
But, yeah, look at the credits for Score or any of the Ytsejam live releases and you'll probably see his name.

I don't see 'bobs23' listed in any DT/ytsejam credits :p
Maybe the grass is greener on the other side because you're not over there fucking it up.

Well, okay.  One of the first:lol  And, yes, it was one of my first thoughts because I hadn't bought any of the last batch of DT Ytsejam stuff other than the covers CD and hadn't bought the LTE stuff other than WTKB, and I really wanted all of it.  So, yeah, I was concerned.

Quarter_Cask

hmm, looks like in few months, Mike will blame yoko ono for all this mess  ::)

lucky7

I hope in the future things are better between them all....maybe this was Mike's way of scaring everybody to buy now or they won't be available.  :)
It will be a shame if we have no more releases like that, but we know Mike put in huge time and resources into these releases and I doubt the rest of the band will do the same.
Thank god DT are on twitter or we would never hear from them.

Algo Fonix

This thread reminded me that I should order When Dream and Day Reunite.  So I did just that.  I'd love more Ytsejam releases in the future, as unlikely as it seems from the statement.  But, we do have quite a nice bunch of shows that would otherwise not be officially available, so that's something to be thankful for.

It's your optimism.  It's strangely hyper-active.

Oh come on, my assumption is very realistic.  Seriously, based on all the evidence we have accumulated throughout the years, thinking that other members were as interested as MP in releasing stuff for the fans would be ridiculous. He wasn't a control freak in 1989, and yet he still kept all the videos form that time while nobody else in the band was doing it, and thus we have the wonderful WDADRU bonus material, the demos from that time, etc. He also kept the I$W perfomrances, ACOS erarly versions, etc. o you really think Mike had an iron fist during that time? That's ridiculous.  It's not like he took over the videos and made the ohter guys stay away from them as you imply. Ytsejam is completely his initiative.

The other members not being as interested as doing that stuff as Portnoy is not the same thing as none of them wanting to do it.  Just saying...;)

It's kind of like if you have a marriage, and the husband is anal about bills and money, so he insists on taking care of all of their financial stuff.  It doesn't mean the wife doesn't think that stuff is important; it just means that one person would rather be in control of it all, probably because they want to make sure it is done both correctly and the way they want it.

That was the analogy I thought of (mainly because that is how things are at my house :p) And if that husband decides he doesn't want to do it anymore, or they get divorced, the wife will figure out how best to fill the void. Of course not a great analogy: something that has to be done (paying bills), versus something that doesn't, but KevShmev's point is a good one.

And I can't seriously fault the rest of the band for never thinking to record and store every single performance they ever gave. That is a little bit OCD. I appreciate Mike for doing so, but would never not appreciate the others for not doing so.

Great post.  I totally agree with the last thing you said. :tup :tup

Quote from: ariich on February 24, 2011, 08:15:36 AM
Kev, why is your assumption any more realistic?

Because Portnoy is by his own admission a total control freak, and we have never seen anything by the others that would indicate that they don't care about some of the things that Portnoy had sole control of.  In a group dynamic, it becomes like, "Hey, he is doing all of that?  Cool.  Now I don't have to do it or worry about it."  Doesn't mean they wouldn't do it if the situation was different, or that they don't care about it, though.

Quote from: Miyazaki74 on February 24, 2011, 08:21:56 AM
Mike has always been an open book towards his fans. He's just being honest(from his point of view) about the whole situation. I don't think he's said anything to make the guys look bad. He's just telling his side of the story. If the guys feel that he's being dishonest well then maybe they should speak up, I know Mike would.

Eh, that is the worst thing the band could do.  Why get into a public game of "he said, she said"?  And we all know Portnoy would speak up, since he has shown that he doesn't when to not say something.  The band is being smart by staying quiet and simply working on their new album.  Why get dragged into some silly public drama, which could distract them from the immediate task at hand, which is writing and recording new music?

I don't think it's unreasonable that very few of us know or remember Bob.  Maybe he's been around a while, but he's got fewer than 100 posts in all that time.  But thanks for the explanation.  You seem pretty sure of his credentials.
I truly fail to see what a post count has to do with knowledge. I don't have 200123154577 posts, but that doesn't make me any less knowledgeable about something I posted. Although I can see skepticism in someone making their first post with earth shattering news  without something to substantiate it. This should give a little cred

You didn't read the tiny text, did you?  :lol

On the issue of having a postcount or not, its just that more people notice you the more you post, and without a four-star thing saying you've been here since DT.net, or a custom member title like "editor of YTSEjam bootlegs" people aren't going to remember/know you.  I mean, if Bosk and a few others say you actually know your stuff I believe 'em, but, no offense, I never heard of you till just now.  :P

Yeah, same here. In fact, when it was pointed out who bobs was, I remembered last time I didn't know and someone pointed it out. But it's cause his name is just bobs23. Maybe if it were like YtseJamBob or something it'd be more obvious.

Ya, since EZboard(that was a fun time)
If I change my screen name to PERSONALFRIENDOFMP or DTEDITOR or IKNOWTHENAMEOFTHENEWDRUMMER  maybe I would be taken seriously? I have had that screen name since '96 and saw no need to change it.
For the record, I have credits on about 2 dozen DT and related projects. I do all the mastering for GDT.
And my dayjob, I work in television and over 30 million people a week see my work.
I don't post often, but when I do it hopefully clarifies topics that I have knowledge of(as this one).
And you guys wonder why band members don't post here.

bosk1

Nah, don't change the user name.  But I'm going to change your member group to EZboard Elder to reflect that you've been around awhile (unless you would feel self-conscious and would prefer that I didn't).

But in fairness to Chino, he was only joking with you.

I think it's just that they didn't know who you were... your post was essentially a voice in the crowd - we're grateful for your contributions (and yes! cheers for chipping in!), but not everybody knows the name bobs23 off by heart.

Admittedly, would've become pretty obvious if they'd just checked your posting history, but hey! Bosk's at hand for clarification.

Yes, but the evidence we have tells us that MP was the only interested, and we have no evidence of the other guys giving a damn about it. The site has MP all over it, he wrote the liner notes, he has the bootlegs in his home, the initiated the project, he promoted the new releases on his webpage, he thought hard about what the fans would like to hear (Metropolis pt. 1 demo), etc. The other 4 guys are nowhere to be found on the releases, nobody relates them to Ytsejam, and I see no chance that we'll see any ytsejam releases in the future without MP (hey, they don't have any videos of their own to release in any case). So my assumption was perfectly valid considering the evidence we have, and not based on some speculation about MP being a control freak at age 21 and not letting them having any bootlegs.

KevShmev

I don't think it is as easy as connecting those kind of dots.  I mean, are we gonna say that Jordan Rudess doesn't give a damn about lyrics?  Or that he thinks that they aren't important?  I mean, he hasn't bothered to write a single lyric since being in the band.  His name is nowhere to be found on any of the albums when you see "Lyrics by:..."  Sure, we can speculate that maybe he does think that they are important, but the evidence we have, him having written not a single lyric for the band, is clear, right?

Infinite Cactus

I was really just kind of nonchalant reading MP's post. You know same old same old, it was the part about I WAS WORKING ON A NEW BATCH BUT NOT NOW GOM GOM that made me roll my eyes and laugh. MP is the biggest MP troll. I love the man as a drummer and musician, and appreciate all he's done or whatever. But lol unto thee Mike. You silly banana.

KISS 76

I have all the releases & really looked forward to each batch being released as well as the fan club discs (which I assume won't happen from now on?...). I've been a member of the fan clubs since Neil Elliot's Images & Words & have them all as well. Through the years it has been made clear in interviews that Mike has an interest in documenting everything... I guess that's why we have Drum Cam DVD's & no Bass, Guitar & Keyboard disc's... It has also been stated that there are one or two members of the band who actually weren't too thrilled with having Ytsejam releases at all. That speaks volumes to me. Mike was the driving force for getting the label started & I assume once some $ started to flow in the rest of the guy's were content with him doing most of the work compiling the material? I really can't see a way that this can work out now he's out of the band... He has the material & they probably have the legal rights. Maybe he can continue to work as before & they pay him extra as an executive producer? This is just another case of us being the kids in a messy divorce...

Bill Carson

Realise I'll be in the minority here but I'm gonna say it anyway...............
To be honest I can live without any of the YTSE recordings ! Remember when all I had of DT was Images & Words.
That album was my world and I longed for anything else of theirs I could get my hands on. Now I have everything, B-Sides, C-Sides Demos, live recordings etc etc
Yes there's some great and interesting stuff but to be honest, I would say it has diluted my enjoyment.
Reckon the longing is better than the over feeding.
So I say close YTSE down, burn Mikes recordings so he can't release anymore..........and lets get back to official releases.
Less is more !!!!

Jordan has actually stated in interviews that he is interested in writing lyrics and singing background vocals. The band just does not want him to, that is the problem.
