edit..

Wait.... I don't mean it IS crap.... I mean.... "OH, CRAP, THIS IS AMAZING!"  :lol

Perpetual Change

Well, duh, the band you just linked too, which is a lot like the Dream Theater that exists today, is actually the best band in the entire world.

Yup. Labrie could REALLY sing back in 1992. Who's surprised?

bosk1

Wow...that was just...my throat hurt just listening to it and thinking about how hard that was to pull off.

Dream Team

A big "go be crazy somewhere else" to people who call that "dated". And food poisoning sucks  :(.

antigoon

It's so damn amazing how effortless that sounds. He was really something else before his accident.

bosk1

Even had he not had the accident, I'm not sure he could still sing that song like that today.  That's just brutally difficult.  It's one thing when you're that young and you are in a young band serving as an opening act with a 30-45 minute set.  It's another when you've been at this for decades and you're playing 90 minutes or more.

Mladen

An awesome performance, but I'm not surprised at all - we all know that James rules, especially in the early days.  :metal

James is so good...a singer that took me a long time to learn to appreciate, but it recently clicked.  You know, even though he's lost this upper range, I'm really happy that he's starting to figure out what works for him now that he's older (take Static Impulse, the end of TCoT, or the recent SDV/TSCO performance as examples).  It really shows when he's on stage, too.

I do have to say but he is my favourite singer of all time.  He has such a unique voice that really clicks with me.  I remember when I first heard him sing which was Scenes From A Memory and I didn't really appreciate him then,  I just thought he was "ok".  I can't remember the moment he clicked with me but it happened and I can't get enough.  He is the greatest singer in the world for me and one the main reasons I listen to DT.

JLB was totally on during this concert - this song is no exception.

James LaBrie, back when he was the demigod of singing -And I've gotta admit he still has some of that awesomeness today. It must have been awesome seeing them live in '92-'93.

SnakeEyes

He has really improved in recent years, no doubt.  However, after watching that video, I really don't know.... I mean.... I really, really don't know if I believe he could sing that well nowadays.  That's not a knock on him.

The Killing Hand from the same show.  Rivals Live at the Marquee in terms of pure insanity.

That's insanely good!

At least, I would assume it is.  The video is taking forever to load, so I haven't actually seen it yet.  But I am confident your assessment is correct.

EDIT.  Confirmed.  Mindblowing.

nikostheater

It's insanely great..
Bombastic performance..

RaiseTheKnife

Yep, that's what I was saying your other thread Snakes Eyes.  Home Sweet Home boot is worth chasing down.

Bone_Daddy

Ageed. Mind blowing.

I remember seeing them in Colorado Springs at Rack n Roll in '92 and they kicked ass. I remember Mr. Moore getting pissed at the sound guys and knocking over his keyboard in a tantrum. Then he cooled down and they just rocked on for the rest of the evening.

j

Holy shit.  Effortlessly nailing everything.  I can count on one hand the rock singers I can think of who could do that even in their prime.

The only problem I have with that performance was that he didn't do the G5 (or whatever) at 4:48 like at Marquee or the New York City 3/4/93 Bootleg... but he did do a great high pitch at 5:53.

I also love this one, with the comment on the video telling you what he's hitting and if in chest or head voice etc.

The above link is also KM's last live US gig with Dream Theater.

I'm amazed at how spot on it is to the album version. He literally sings it perfectly. Still a great singer, but I would've loved to have seen then back in their heyday. Must've been quite an impressive sight.

Wow 60 more views and that will be on 100,000.  Shows just how much of a great singer LaBrie is!  All for one note!  :metal
