i am fabio

I just like it so i voted for the 2nd love it? Nothing special to me but it's cool

pogoowner

Love it. It's probably the song that got me into Dream Theater.

manticore999

It's kind of a goofy 'teen angst' type of song.  Cringe-worthy at best.  One of the worst songs they've written, and considering how horrible the last album was that's saying something.

?

Great song! But then again, everything on Awake is great!  :lol I like its atmosphere, it's the song with probably the most effective use of samples that I know.

Jirpo

I love it, it would probably be around the 20th spot for me :)

Kosmo

Sigz

It's pretty easily the best song on Awake (not that that's saying a whole lot).

Zydar

Meh. Not their worst song, but nowhere near best for me.

Mladen

Love It. Not one of my favorite songs on Awake, but I still love it.  ;D

I like it, it might break into my top 50 or top 40, but it's rather exciting to see this "banned" song being played once.

How was BCSL horrible? And even worse... SDV is a top 20 DT song. No question.

Hal Incandenza

It's one of my favorite songs of all time.

That's a joke, right?  I mean the writing on BCSL was some of the worst I've ever seen.  Musically, it sounds like they phoned it in - very repetitive and just 'me too' metal.  Nothing spectacular at all.  Usually, even when I don't like one of their albums as a whole (which is all of them since 6DOIT) I can find one or two songs that I like.  BCSL was just so bad that there's not one song worth listening to.  Of course, my opinion, and others will disagree.  I'm just hopeful that the lineup change will give them the kick in the pants they need and get them feeling creative again.

Oh, and have you actually read the lyrics for SDV?  The sound like some love-sick pre-teen wrote them.  They're almost funny!

In my humble opinion, it was DT's single song that truly conveyed an emotion to the listener. Ok, maybe except Take away my pain.
I think MP never understood what DT had lost through KM's departure. He only saw it through his goggles of musicianship etc., but he never understood the importance of a song connecting with the audience. And SDV always stood out in that regard.

Excellent post right here. I mean, I wouldn't say it's the only song that conveyed an emotion, but it's certainly the strongest, in my opinion. I know that I have very strong emotional connection to Space-Dye Vest.

Lowdz

I love it. It is a great way to end this intense album.
And I can play it on piano (sort of), and I can't play piano!

I certainly don't get the "it's not a DT song". It's as DT as Wait For Sleep.

It's totally bogus. It's just another case of lashing out at people behind their back.

Love it, best song on Awake, 10/10.

If there's something subliminal in these lyrics then it went right over my head.

rumborak

I'm saying MP's declaration of the song as "non-DT" was a case of lashing at people behind their back.

Love it.  Awake is my favorite album, and SDV is one of my favorite songs.

Gadough

It's my least favorite off Awake, but it's alright.

The name of the new drummer is hidden in the lyrics of SDV... you just have to look hard

Musically I love the song. The atmosphere and the mood sound beautiful.
Lyrically, its alright but it fits the setting.

It was the song that made me a Dream Theater fan.

I was working at a McDonald's in 1994, and my friend had brought it in and played in the break room, loudly.  The breakroom was in the middle of all of the work areas, and was audible to the grill area and the drive thru.  When the song kicked in something happened that I'll never forget:  Black, white, hispanic, and mostly rap and pop fans, all stopped what they were doing, motionless for about 30-45 seconds and simply listened in wonderment.  It was a straight-out-of-a-movie moment.  I was one fo those people, and have been a fan ever since.

One of the best songs of the 90's.  One of my favorite songs ever.

Cool story bro

King Postwhore

It's a good song but it never made me tell my friends about it. So it's ok. I voted Kevin Moore.
