I was speaking to the "as of yet undisclosed drummer for DT" and I have learned that JMx is NOT playing the Bass guitar.   At all...

The new lineup has JR playing all the basslines on keys and in the spirit of the great Zamfir, JMx will be playing the Pan Flute.   Apparantly he got ahold of a greatist hits album of Zamfir and has had a musical change of heart.

OMG, somebody else knows Zamfir: Master of the Panflute!
\o\ lol /o/

in further news,  JMx is officially changing his name to Goochy: Disciple of the Panflute and is negotiating a deal with RR records to re-master all of Zamfir's works into one album, all as one continuous song, (in true DT form)

Being the least audible doesn't have anything to do with not hearing him. I can hear him fine.

When I say hear some bass, I'm talking WDADU levels.
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

Good luck with that. That was a one time deal, probably.

For someone as introverted as JM, it's not as easy to break out as you might think. I selected option 3.

I HOPE he's very involved, but I don't actually EXPECT him to increase his involvement at all.

That's my expectation really.

Todd: What type of impact will the departure of Mike have on the songwriting dynamic within Dream Theater?

James: "It might shift the dynamic as far as the involvement.  There may be a bit more involvement from (bassist) John Myung.  Basically, (keyboardist) Jordan (Rudess) and (guitarist) John (Petrrucci) are the main contributors to the music, so a lot of that is going to remain the same, but there might be some more involvement from John Myung and myself, ya know?  We'll just have to get in there and start feelin' things out.  This is a whole new chapter for us or a whole new dynamic, as you put it, for us to be going into.  If anything, I think it will be overwhelmingly positive, very exciting and something different.  It's going to be very different and a new experience for all of us.  I think it's going to bring up a lot of things that might not have otherwise been noticed or known.  There's a certain potential that it brings and that's why I do my solo albums, ya know?  My inspiration is that I get to reveal who James LaBrie is outside of being the singer for Dream Theater and who I am as a writer and Producer and a singer.  It will be interesting to see how this unfolds within the studio."

It's quite encouraging to hear that though...we can only hope!!  ;D

I hope all the daily 6-hour practice will pay off this album. Its his time to shine again

7StringedBeast

All that practice is going to use anyway.  Just being able to double petrucci on fast runs and passages makes the practice necessary.  I mean, JM can double petrucci on bass what he does on guitar.  That's incredible by itself.

Mladen

Whoa, that was an interesting bit of interview. Paint me excited.  :metal

That's true, the man has so much talent. In all honesty, I wouldn't be at all dissapointed if he doubled JP some more this album, that's enough to make someone go "woah" but as long as the bass has more prominence in the production, then its alright.

Chino

I want a track called Metropolis Bass Solo Pt.2

I totally agree, I don't care if its good enough it should be very distinguised. His bass shit is soo good its dissapointing not to hear it. Watching and listening to Score and Chaos in Motion dvd's he just destroys.
