Just thinking on how cool it would be to see DT and they encore with WFS/LTL... I would be satisfied with that encore. What encore song(s) would just make a show for you even better if they encored with? doesn't have to be realistic... just can't be Space Dye... (so many people would go home and kill themselves..)

oh and I forgot what tour it was, but they encored with Sheep at a show in LA (SFAM tour?)

inoku

yeah, WFS/LTL would be cool.  :tup

Infinite Cactus

I think Only a Matter of Time or ACOS would be awesome. Learning to Live as well. Hell, I just want to see them again.

The Letter M

WFS/LTL was/is an amazing choice for an Encore. I think "Trial Of Tears" works for a good encore too, opening with the soft ambient intro.

Of course, there's the standard of closing out with an epic for an encore - ITPOE, 8VM, ACOS, and ITNOG.

I think TSCO/FF would make a great Encore in the same way WFS/LTL would, especially if the show opened with TGP (ends-the-way-it-began motif FTW).

My only issue with that is TSCO. They need to never play that song ever again.

Same and I was the happiest person on the planet. Though this one girl behind me actually sang along Wait For Sleep very badly and almost ruined it. Hearing Learning To Live made my day though.

Did they extend LTL when you saw it? Cause they extended the 'classical guitar part' when I saw it.

orcus116

Yes. They did a very tasteful middle section, probably that part you were talking about.

Ditto.

And honestly, I could see it over and over again.

If Dream Theater ALWAYS closed a headlining show with this, I would be forever happy. Not that I wouldn't already, but I mean, this would be the icing on the cake every time.

JayOctavarium

I would have loved WFS/LTL when I first saw them... instead of The Count of Fucking Tuscany

Ħ

ACOS is my favorite choice, although many songs could work.

orcus116

ACOS would be awesome as well. One of the best concert moments I had was when the Dead Poets Society video came on the screen after intermission and Petrucci let into the beginning of that song.

Perpetual Change

I always get flack for this, but I wish they'd consistently encore with Pull Me Under, Metropolis, or Learning to Live. The couple times I've seen them they've encored with Metropolis, Tuscany, and In The Name of God. Metropolis by far had the best impact on the audience.  While I understand they like debuting the new stuff, they ought to use the new epic to close out the set rather than show. Because those Images and Words songs are the tried and true favorites. Play any of those three and you can bet that 95 percent of the audience is ecstatic.

My life would be complete if I got to see this combo (encore or not).

This would be my choice as well. Although I think they'll play Octavarium as an encore this time around, something's telling me it will be back in the setlist - and what better place for Octavarium than the last song.

never seen it..
heck I've never seen them live  :'(
they canceled their 2005 tour in my country  :sadpanda:

KISS 76

Learning to Live would be awesome again. It has that epic ending feel.
I also hope that they work up another interesting medley to play...

While I think it wouldn't be the best idea to limit themselves to those three, Metropolis and Learning To Live are awesome choices.

Darkes7

They played WFS/LTL as encore in Katowice on the Systematic Chaos tour, it was very nice.

In The Name of God would be absolutely awesome. Octavarium or The Shattered Fortess would be amazing too.

ZKX-2099

The Best Of Times would make a good encore but... uh... yeah........

Lotion

as i've only seen them twice where the encores have been The Count of Tuscany and Schmedley Wilcox, I guess Metropolis or ACOS would be my first and second choice. Learning to live or finally free could work too

ddtonfire

I've seen them encore with ACoS, LTL, and TCoT and all were amazing encores. I don't think medleys make strong encores.

KevShmev

"Take the Time" and "The Spirit Carries On" are both tremendous encore songs.

skydivingninja

I am also of the PC opinion that they should always end with a tried and true fan favorite, and that new epics shouldn't close out the show, just the set.  I got to see Metropolis and, awesome as it was, LtL or Trial of Tears would be the best encores ever.

tjanuranus

i just wish they wouldn't cut the second verse out of metropolis. The last few times i've seen them they did that. I guess to save time or whatever but that's my favorite part!

MetropolisxPt1

I saw Wfs/LtL but they did a different middle section same chord progression and it was quite amazing :metal

Really? Was it part of a medely or something? I've never heard of DT doing that.

Finally Free would be a great encore.

Same!
But I mean they cut out V2 of Voices, TTT, etc, might as well cut out V2 of Metropolis, because those are only their best songs.

cyberdrummer

In 2005, I saw The Spirit Carries On (w/ Theresa Thomason) + extended Learning to Live as an encore. Incredible.

lonestar

At the SF Six Degrees show I went to, their encore was Home and a full cover of Master of Puppets. :hat

They have never, ever cut the second verse out of metropolis.

You must be thinking of Take The Time.

I was actually glad that they didn't end the main set with the new epic in 2009. TCOT begs to be a closer, and it worked quite well.
