For Gene Simmons...Yes.  For others, there's a bit more material to work with. :lol

The last song Petrucci wrote about personal experiences was The Count of Tuscany.

No thanks.
I was waiting for that.  How about Take Away my Pain?  Damn good lyrics there.

All of his lyrics back then were great, fictional or non. But I haven't seen any evidence that he can write good ones anymore, be they fictional or non.

You can't just suddenly become bad at something you're awesome at. I'm sure there's a reason why his lyrics got worse, maybe he can fix it.  :'(

I'll use sports to make my point.

Tom Brady had Randy Moss.  Randy Moss= top 10 reciever ever.

The team was disfunctional with him.  They traded him and that forced Tom Brady to sharpen his passing skills to find the open reciever instead of forcing it to Moss.

Mabye this is what will be interesting about the new CD.  They will be forced to sharpen their writing skills.

Why are we talking about hockey? Or Baseball? Or Golf? Or whatever the hell sport you're talking about. God I know nothing about sports.

Which is the one with the ball?

LOL You! You get the point.  I guess this is the great part of waiting to see how it works or not.

Has JP/JR/CJS ever wrong angsty lyrics? What they should do is write a song about how happy they are to be moving forward with their new era, like CJS talked about in that interview that caused so much trouble. The Blabbermouth headline would be awesome. Dream Theater's New Single "No, We Aren't Sad Mike Left" not popular with ex-bandmate.
Something along these lines would be pretty awesome.

Maybe in the studio means JP putting more pen to paper!

Seriously hope the announcement is soon, I can't remember the last time I went a day without logging on to a DT associated website to see if the news has been released.

Fingers crossed it's Mike Mangini

tjanuranus

These Walls is awesome lyrically. Sometimes they are awesome at writing lyrics. I really hope Labrie and Myung have more input on this album. JP, Labrie and Myung each writing would be sick!

Maybe they just need to stop trying to be so badass and br00tal all the time and write from the heart again.

They've always written from the heart and produced music that they like.  You may not like what they've done lately, but it hasn't been tailored to the fans or the label.

I disagree.  :P  Maybe not tailored to the fans but certainly tailored to...  :-X :\ you know who. He who pushes balls to the wall. The spitting horror. The Lurker At The Drumkit. The fallen one who shall return to do battle at the end times.

Slightly untrue, as I specifically remember Mike saying they wrote A Write of Passage as a shorter song because they knew the label would want something usable as a single.

Granted that's a matter of intent and not music, but still.

This is really cool! I was expecting them to go to studio next week.

Tweet from Thomas Lang: I need a nap. /speculation  :P

That tweet is real, but I am 100% sure it has nothing to do with DT. Still hoping though...

Is the /speculation part in the original twat or whatever or did you add that?

I added it. Mainly because I thought it was something someone would speculate over and think it had to do with DT.

In all honesty, I'm not sure why I added it.

I'm just gonna leave now

Dude, that was MEAN. I got seriously happy for a minute there.

You gave my dreams wings. And then you clipped those wings. Now how will my dreams fly?

Well, if it makes you feel any better, my wings have been clipped too. I voted for Lang when this thread was created and I haven't changed it since. I really want him to be the new drummer, and for all I know, maybe Lang needs a nap from the work in studio today. Who knows...

I'm hoping for a "Take the Time" type feel-good prog metal jam. That'd be awesome.

Yes, with a little jazz and a little funk.  Sweet.

If they have to reference the break up I hope it's done in a poetic, abstract way (a la lyrics from I&W) rather than "Our old drummer the Tyrant" sort of stuff.

alpheus94

He needs a nap because he's been up for many many consecutive hours learning Dream Theater's entire back catalog.   :metal

No, of course not. They'd never call one of their songs by that title. No, that'll be the name of the album.

They should write a song called, "Never Enough Part 2: Scenes from Our Memories.... with Mike Portnoy"  LOL

And make it a polka or Greek rembetiko song. With the new drummer playing santouri, Petrucci playing bouzouki, James singing and playing tambourine,Myung acoustic bass, Rudess accordeon.

After that it will be the end of times.
