And a very very good one too:

QuoteFirst day in the studio and the dawn of a new era for DT. Can't wait to get the music flowing.

Raziel666

I was about to post about this. Did he enter the studio alone or with JMX & the New Drummer (and possibly JLB)? 'Cos it seems that JR is still somewhere in China!

TheVoxyn

I like this topic better. It has Frank Zappa.

Nihil-Morari

But I added the post :D

And it has Zappa, haha.

It seems JR is still gone, no word from JMX

Raziel666

Somebody should camp outside the studio and let us know who the new drummer is! :police:

JayOctavarium

isnt Jordan still in China?

any chance in hell that anyone knows where the studio is? (lolz semi serious!) someone start searching New York for a bear...

Is anybody else getting sexually aroused by this news?

Am I the only one surprised they go into the studio without announcing who their drummer is?

FTFY  ;)

But anywho, no biggy.

I'm excited! I wonder if the whole (new!) band is present, or if it's only JP rigging his gear...

No, it kinda surprises me as well. But it's good news, nonetheless.

They haven't even been in there for a day yet. Give em time.

I think you misunderstood me. I was expecting them to announce their drummer before they would go into the studio.

Thing is, they entered. I think it's strange too, but as karmataze (?) said it could be just JP rigging his gear.

Pumpkin Pie

At least we know things are moving forward....

Aniland

James said that they're clearing things up with management and the label before they are allowed to announce; it's not that odd. I bet it'll be in the next couple of weeks.

I'd love to compile quotes of people saying it will be announced in the next couple of weeks.

I really that all started a couple of months ago.

Haha, that's way cooler than my nick.  :lol

Probably a bunch of preparations and rigging that has to be done before they can even think about start jamming and/or recording.

Programmed drums.

I was thinking about that possibility too. Maybe their idea is that JP+JR write everything and the new drummer will come in and play it.

From Neal Morse:
The Morse-Morse-Portnoy Project -

The big news on that is that it is taking place; the sessions are starting January 3rd!

I know, i know... he said he would not be in the studio with the DT guys in particular. But, just for the record, it's still strange.

Yes, and maybe they will release the new album with programmed drums also, like Devin Towsend's Ziltoid album. Then they don't have to announce the new drummer before starting the tour.

I don't think so. If they've chosen another drummer, aside from "we need someone", is also because they need someone to play with, who can give them another angle, another prospective of what they can say after 30 years. In the last records, even if they were, less or more, not that bad, you can clearly ear a lack of originality. The firt part of Tcot is based on "Another Day" clean arpeggio. So, in this sense i think he will be with them from day one.

rumborak

Nope! And it becomes a bit of a volatile secret at this point.

So - next few days, I'd wager. I'd think they'd want to announce it themselves with a dazzling burst of grand PR rather than risk telling everyone what they already know.

I'll be very surprised if not, but there we go.

kala1928

Programming the free feel of a real drummer takes about ten times more time and a lot of the stuff isnt even possible to do so I don't see why they would use that method after very carefully figuring out who they pick as the new drummer. Especially since the ability to jam around was one of the more important points when deciding on the new drummer.

EternalDancer

I'm guessing the new guy isn't joining them in the studio yet. The risk of a leak would be too great

rumborak

Man, did they shrink-wrap the guy in some storage area? You'd think there would have been a leak by now.

rumborak

Zydar

Anyone know what studio they're using for this? Bear Tracks?
