Actually, it has everything to do with momentum. It's very possible that they lose fans, most likely fans who were already pretty much 'done' with DT (and all they needed was something like this to seal the deal). Not saying these are necessarily my sentiments, but just thinking out loud.

Well, we're going off topic with this discussion now, but:  If they lose fans over not disclosing the new drummer yet, so what?  They haven't done anything wrong or out of the ordinary in this process.  A band member was asked point blank shortly after the auditions whether they had chosen someone, and answered affirmatively.  They are waiting a few months to announce who that person is when the time is right.  They haven't done anything wrong in that scenario, and nobody should be expecting the information yet.  To the extent they lose a handful of fans with short attention spans, too bad for those fans.  They're the ones who are missing out.  If those fans were already "'done' with DT" as you put it, DT aren't losing anything important.

All three, Minnemann, Lang and Mangini are great drummers. I would be really happy if it was Minnemann, but if other one is elected, even if it's a dud we've never heard of, I'm okay. in support of the momentum issue.....the band recaptured my interest quite well with Black Clouds. I was looking forward to a new album with the original line up. The drumming drama has soured my interest. I care not for who the new drummer might be, when a new album may be coming out, or that they're even in studio. I'll certainly listen...but I WAS KEEN for new stuff after BC. Now. Pffffft. Whatev.

I agree with the momentum talk, acter MP left, there was a spark in DT with curiosity, now over time, it has died down.  However, in the end, the band needs to take thier time and find the best drummer.  Momentum will come back when they release the album.

One interesting thing I have noticed about watching Minnemann (I knew nothing of him before last week) is not so much his competence and style (which as a non-drummer, I still find mind-blowing)....but it is his personality (as much as you can get from a video).
I just find myself liking him.  Is that wierd?   I think it will be Mangini, as it appears to be the "safe" choice...and that is 100% understandable considering they likely dont want to take any chances with their livelyhood.  But I think that Minnemann would add an x factor in DT and perhpas nudge them in a direction that has been neglected or unexplored.  JMO.

We have no linkable info. We have students at Berkelee (sp?) saying that Mike Mangini cleared his whole schedule for the next semester and won't answer questions about DT.

sorry, i realize now i was being a little hostile. i just dont agree theyve lost momentum, it's just a quiet time in the DT universe. Kind of a calm-before-the-storm kind of thing.
