I'm just fed up with the people saying here that the new drummer will only be a hired gun and be asked to go after a couple of years at best! It's only wishful thinking! Geez, you don't know anything about it AT ALL!

The new drummer will not be announced as a hired gun. But he will be. There is no way the new drummer becomes a full vested member in the band from a legal and financial sense without at least a year of vetting including a complete album/tour cycle.

It really can't be any other way. You don't know anything about a new member until you've written with him, and toured with him. Regardless of his prior background. So the new drummer will be announced as the "new drummer of Dream Theater". But he will, in reality, be a hired gun with a year or so to prove whether he is a fit.

Oh, come on! Of course, it will need some time before he can be seen as a full time member, but there's a HUGE difference between being a hired gun and being a permanent member having to show he's a good fit.
Yet, I was merely reacting to those who HOPE it will only last a couple of years at best and want MP to come back afterwards. For once, I don't want MP to come back. I've said it already in another thread, but I've been far from excited by DT's latest outputs. The new drummer thing have me prick up my ears again. If MP ever returns, I'm done with listening to DT. Period.

I dream last night that somehow my brother knew Priester and introduce him to me and priester him self told me he was the new drummer. Altho i felt that he was a cool guy.. i wasn't bumped cause i wanted Lang to be the chosen one.

But well.. what can i say.. it was just a dream :S.

I'm worry that i'm starting to dream about this!!!

I don't think that's how it will work at all.  This isn't a Moore/Sherinian situation here.  Derek actually was brought on as a hired gun, and it was made clear that he was a hired gun before he became an official band member.  DT is pretty honest about these sort of things.  If they were getting a hired gun to replace Mike, they would have said so.  They're looking for a permanent replacement.  Don't lose hope in how DT does things.

And I'm pretty sure the new member will become a full vested member in the band from a legal and financial sense as soon as they sign their names on some contracts.  Whether the fans accept him as a full vested member immediately or after some time is an entirely different matter.

Exactly what I was thinking.

I think DT have picked someone who they know can and will do the job.  They may have only really known the guy for a short time, so there are no definites in any situation.  What if the guy is cool now and then totally turns into a jerk later?  Plus, who is to say that the new drummer will want to stay with DT?  Too many variables to definitely label the new guy as permanent.

DT would be smart to have the new guy be an employee of DT first, with an option for full member status after a predetermined period of time.  New guy likely wont get a 1/5 split.  Unless they pull a Metallica and offer the dude a million backs, he will likely be more of a business partner than an equal member of DT.

MP is still entitled to what WAS his part and I imagine he is entitled to some things moving forward.  That can get pretty tricky from a legal standpoint and I am sure it will take lots of lawyer to lawyer contact before it gets smoothed out.  If MP stills thinks he FORCED out rather than him QUITTING, then I am sure it will take a while to sort out.

Either way, the new guy is gettng one cool gig with DT.

I predict a new years announcement.  As another forumer says "Take it away Marco!"

I posted this a while ago, but I once really had a dream that the new drummer was named Von Crotch Rocket. And he was introduced by Batman.

Hmmmm.  John Macaluso played on a couple of Malmsteen albums.  I liked him, although that's a different gig to the DT one.  It'll be interesting to hear if there's anything in this.

Absolutely not. That's not the way it works in general, and I'm 100% certain that it will not work that way here either. The new drummer will be announced as a new member, but the contract and relationship will be completely probationary and contingent. None of this will be shared with the fans however. This is all backroom business stuff that the fans: 1) Don't need to know about and 2) Shouldn't really care about.

Anyway no need for us to debate it. I doubt the contract will pe posted here for us to analyze. However an album will be released and I am more concerned with the quality and creativity of the drummer, rather than his personal finances.

I only have the Alchemy album, but he does a great job on that one. And when I think about Macaluso, I always have Ark  or Union Radio in mind. And he does a fantastic job there.

EDIT : just go there : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KU_sd9YQDc0&feature=player_embedded#!

Pretty cool solo, I should say. I have no doubts as to his abilities.
