Seeing LaBrie say something like that doesn't bother me as much. My personal reasoning is that he has always seemed like a genuine guy that would only give a reaction like that because he (along with the rest of DT) were forced into this mess so the frustration seems natural. MP has been pretty good lately but when he comments it seems like one of those "hey, it's not on me", all caps answers like the most recent one.

But if MP said something along these lines.... Comments would be here faster than JP to a small mammal...

Yes I am a fan of MP but I'm also a great fan of DT... I'm side-less in the whole situation they have both done damage, but when MP is the only one that gets called out for it... It's not right

While we occasionally may jump to conclusions regarding MP, I think there's such a lopsidedness to MP's statements vs. DT's statements that asking for more even treatment would be kinda like the call for teaching Creationism in school because that would treat it fairly.

I think his personality has a lot to do with it. Plus since he instigated the whole situation and DT took what is widely considered the most beneficial course of action for them as a group, I don't really see the damage on their part. Remember this is their livelihood, not just a long-time group of buddies.

I can also understand a bit of how Labrie might feel about the situation since MP openly said in interviews that he wouldn't choose the singer today, felt like the band more or less only kept him because the fans see him as "the* frontman, and had been more for kicking him out than the others (instead of the "you better work on things; you're on thin ice" that he got).

And I don't really fault him for the things he feels, although I think the reasoning he gave for James staying in the band was nonsense. If the rest of the band agreed with him that an ultimatum wouldn't fix the situation, they'd have gone along with him and fired James.

Puuuuuhleeeeease.

James has never said anything near as tactless as MP has about the split.

He has been blunt and said things like, "Mike Portnoy will never return" because he in the same breath was speaking about how they are 100% happy with Mike Mangini and he is a full time member and that won't change.

If James had also started saying stuff like, "MP is just an unpleasant guy.  I'm so glad he is gone!" then trust me, a lot of people would be like "Dude, what the fuck?"  But he goes out of his way to stay positive.  Occasionally when pressed by an interviewer he will divulge a little more detail and we can nitpick about whether he should have said it or worded it differently or whatever, but it really kind of gets frustrating when people say things like "you guys would jump all over MP if he said that!!!"

1) We probably wouldn't if it was such a general statement

2) Mike Portnoy has done some irrefutable damage on twitter and facebook

If MP said exactly what JLB said -- that is, that he never expects to be in the band again -- then I'm sure none of us would care.  That's a benign statement of fact.  It's the extra stuff that MP tends to add which many of us find questionable, the little passive-aggressive jabs which MP tends to throw out in these situations.  If JLB had thrown out a passive-aggressive jab, like Madman suggested, then you bet your ass we'd be critical of him.  But he didn't.

Cable

MP penned "Never Enough."

I respect what he did for the band, and he did pour everything he had into the band. I do believe after all of this, that is part of the problem. He spent too much of his time, and too many of his feelings. Yes, a lot of fans gave him unnecessary crap, and probably still do.

I do like the song, but I honestly could NEVER see any of the current five members, heck... KM, CD or DS included penning lyrics such as the song. All the while, "Raise The Knife" included stuff about KM. If "6:00" was meant to be about KM's feelings about the members, he did it in such a muted way I still cannot tell where.

This. KM expressed his feelings in 6:00 (which was actually more about him than any of the band members anyway), but MP chose to use Raise the Knife to attack former members and fans.

I've been a fan since 1992 and I was upset at the break up but I'm personally not going to let it ruin my life.  I  will enjoy both music but for me, the band is in a better place.  Sometimes a break up is good.

Same here, even though I have to admit I was pissed at MP for months because I thought this whole situation emerged because he wanted DT to stop and wait for him while he joined A7X.

Yup. Of course we have high standards for people we respect and, of course, since we appreciate the high road that DT, and James in particular, since he was a target for derogatory comments both before and after the split, had been taking all the while, we would surely have something to say if they chose to leave that road. Silence is the best defense, living well is the best... well, I won't say "revenge", but "alternative". And always being kinder than necessary is what this world lacks anyway.

Thing is Mike is a guy who isnt afraid to speak his mind, wheter positive or not.

Plus, fans treat musicians like celebrities and Blabbermouth is like those Global Magazines or People Mags. I as a person dont treat anyone highly, they are human and Mike is one who will say what he wants regardless if it'll make him look bad, its what he thinks. The DT guys seem more laid back and will think over what they say .

People keep saying this, and how much they respect MP for being true to himself and being open and honest with the fans.

BULL.  SHIT.

Just because you *can* say what you want, doesn't mean you *should*.

It's not being "not afraid to speak his mind", it's just a cop-out to justify being an ass by saying "oh, I'm just being honest".  Do you tell your wife she's getting fat and then say "I'm just being open and honest"?  More specifically, do you tell her that out of the blue without any provocation?  Probably not.  I'm not afraid to speak my mind, as I'm sure most people are not afraid, but we do it when it's appropriate, not out of nowhere.  I hate X food, but if they serve X food at the funeral I'm at I don't freak out about it, I just don't eat it.  What kind of a dick would I be to go up to the next of kin and bitch about X food?

There are people, and everyone has friends like this, who use this pathetic defense to do and act and say whatever they want and "well, that's who I am, and if you don't like it then it's *your* problem, not mine".

There are times and places for everything... racist jokes, politically incorrect jokes, etc.  I rip on my Indian friends like they rip on my white trashness, but not out in public or where/when it's inappropriate.

Adults that follow this philosophy are completely narcissistic and delusional and refuse to accept that they aren't a 15-year-old angst-ridden adolescent punk just trying to rebel and figure things out.

I can reluctantly accept MP saying crap just after it all went down, maybe even for a few months, but FFS STFU already and move on.

Majestic postcount, blob (21212).

And yes, I agree with what you (petfish) say generally speaking about those kind of people, but I also think you should try to be a little less blunt, there is no need of getting heated, we are just talking about a drummer, nothing more ;) you don't want MP to come and make another huge rant against you, right?

MP made a rant against Blob? When?

No, petfish, but that was a long time ago and things were resolved quite soon, I remember  :)

Anyway, maybe it's not cool to dig out those past and lived out stories, sorry for that, let's carry on  :-\

I don't remember MP getting on blob, but I remember him getting on rumby.

Actually, the most common phrase heard screamed from the mouths of former DT members would have to be RUMBORAAAAAAAAK

:lol That does remind me, I did manage to piss off Chris Collins when he briefly posted here, and he told me to go and play with my Transformers.

As if that's an insult or something. Obviously he never got that Optimus Prime he asked Santa Claus for when he was a kid.

And I don't think I got on David Prater's good side either. :lol

Holy shit, never looked at it that way. I'm in the very small club of having had two former DT members being pissed at me. :lol
Might even be 3 if Chris Collins read my "leprechaun vocals" comment.

Euphoric is not about dating an overweigh girl.  This is about finding someone who in the eyes of the beholder is their 10 without falling into a category that the media would like you to think a perfect 10 is.
His posts on his forums are perfect, I'm dying of laughter.

"Once again, you have to realize at times I have a  sense of humor." :lol

"I don't mind you bringing up what's on your mind whether it's controversial or not. Be real and speak your mind. If I don't like it and find it insulting I'll strip your entire body of it's skin and feed you to the sharks."

"Arrggghhh, well arent' you a kind lad. I'll be settin you up with one of me favorite wenches."

"And Clayman, In Flames are a great band. Some sick music going on there. You must have been into Dark Tranquility as well." Can we talk about how the singer of Dream Theater is into quality melodic death metal?
