Songs that should be temporarily retired for the next tour

Tell me what songs they shouldn't take out on the next tour cycle and why.  "Because I just don't like it" by itself is not the kind of reason I am looking for.  And anyone just bashing particular songs in this thread is going to get a temp ban.  What songs should the guys put on the shelf for a while?

Here are mine:
-Hollow Years:  I really just don't like it.  But aside from that, I think it's been played now every single tour cycle since TOT (although maybe it wasn't during the 8VM tour--can't remember without checking), and there are plenty of other slower or more ballady songs that haven't been in the rotation in a while or at all that I would like to see given a chance.
-Constant Motion:  Terrific song, but it's been in heavy rotation in both tour cycles since it was released.  Not to mention, it might be a good idea to stay away from songs that are so closely associated with Mike for at least this next tour cycle.
-Panic Attack:  I love it.  But, again, it's been in such heavy rotation the past few tours that it can take a breather.
-The Spirit Carries On:  As with Hollow Years, there are just plenty of other ballady-type songs that haven't been in the rotation that deserve a chance.
-The Best Of Times:  Obvious reason--it is just too much Mike's song.  They shouldn't play this one at all for that reason.
-Another Day:  It hasn't been in heavy rotation in a long time.  But it's also impossible to sing live the way the vocal parts are structured.  I've never heard a live version that does it justice.  Best to just leave it off entirely.

I guess that's it for me.

I agree with all of those except for Another Day. Add "A Rite Of Passage" because that song bores the hell out of me.

They'll probably play it in those cities who didn't get a visit during the BC&SL tour, just like they did with Constant Motion and the cities who didn't get a Chaos in Motion show.

Freebird should be dropped...
:D
( on a serious note..Spirit Carries on, Best of Times..I agree could be dropped)

lordxizor

I don't think they'll play (or should play) any of the more recent songs that are highly associated with Mike for a while. Any of the AA Suite or Best of Times in particular.

Constant Motion-Not a very good song, but it is fun live.  That being said, its been in constant rotation for the past two tours.  Time to give it a rest.
SFAM Songs-TSCO and BTL have been in heavy rotation for the past what, three, four tours?  I wouldn't mind seeing Home live though, even though they did that one quite a few times on the Asian leg of the SC and Iron Maiden tour.
Erotomania/Voices-Are they great?  No, they're fanfuckingtastic, and awesome as they were to see live, taking that second verse out of Voices hurts it a bit, and its was played on the PN08 and PN09 tours pretty regularly.

Those are the only ones I think we've seen too much of.  We had a nice break for Hollow Years to resurface, and its a great song, but we probably won't see it next tour anyways.

Bosk: I'd love to see them play TBOT and the 12 Step Suite.  Hopefully Mike's absence won't keep them from playing those just because he's not there.  Maybe we'll even get Space Dye Vest!  It'll be interesting to see who makes the setlists for the next tour.  Also, your post says "shouldn't" when I think you meant "should."  ;)

LKap13

Hmm let's see ... Beyond this Life, A Rite of Passage and Constant Motion I guess.

Dublagent66

CM
TDEN
PA
TSCO

I also think they should boycott TBOT and the 12 Step Suite.  It wouldn't seem right to play those without MP and there's always the possibility he will came back.  They can play them again if that ever happens.

nikatapi

Constant Motion has been played a lot, so i think it is time for some other songs to take its place.

tri.ad

I agree with bosk's suggestions, but I'd swap AROP for Another Day. Also, TDOE should be put on the shelf until after DT's very last concert.

Sam

I completely agree that there are other ballady songs out there that deserve a chance. Disappear comes to mind. Wait for sleep and Anna Lee would be great too (I never see it get much love, but hell, I think it's a good song). Perhaps omitting A Change Of Seasons, as much as I adore it, would be a good idea, as it's very close to Mike.

This is blasphemy!

Bring Jay Beckenstein on the tour and play another day. Every day.

IdoSC

ItPoE pt. 1, Constant Motion, Panic Attack, Sacrificed Sons, As I Am, The Count of Tuscany (one tour with constant rotation for a damn long average song is enough), The Best of Times, Hollow Years, The Spirit Carries On, Take the Time (unless they revert it to the original studio version, both 1st verse and bridge), any f***ing kind of medley.

On the other hand, MANY songs either need to be taken off the shelf, or being fully played (as opposed to being played in the middle of a medley).

Perpetual Change

Any song with Mike's tough-guy vocals showcased. I'm hoping they'll take a firm stand here and abandon those types of vocals now. Managing to perform them live in some way would just say to me that they're going to keep incorporating that sort of thing. Honestly, JLB did it better. If you're gonna use harsh vocals, use harsh vocals. The compromise "tough guy" vocals just seem to please very few people.

OsMosis2259

I dont think theyll play songs from the Twelve Step Suite, Constant Motion, The Dark Eternal Night, A Nightmare to Remember, The Best of Times because most of them have Mike's vocals or kinda belong to Mike.  I think The Best of Times is now kind of the "Space Dye Vest" with Kevin Moore.  It is too personal to Mike and I dont think theyll play it IMO.

DarkLord_Lalinc

I'm sad because I'll probably never see The Glass Prison live.  :(

LCArenas

A Rite of Passage. Never really liked the song, to be honest.

Intro also spach zarathustra cause I never spell it correctly. And stop schmedley wilcox, I don't like it.

I skimmed the thread and didn't see As I Am.  I personally think it's a great song, but it doesn't have much live magic for some reason.  Like LudwigVan said, the fact that they try to replicate the studio sound doesn't do the song justice.

Other songs....um, I like Hollow Years, but I feel like they are really trying to replicate the LaB version since it's so good, and it doesn't come across well.  So maybe no more Hollow Years.

It seems like James is getting much better recently, and while Another Day is a toughie, I think it'd be great if he went for it in a couple years.

Take out:

Constant Motion
A Rite of Passage
Panic attack
ITPOE
ANTR
TCOT
Hollow Years
Beyond this Life
Home
Fatal Tragedy
TDOE
Solitary Shell
The Spirit carries on

I honestly thing Wither can be extended to take the place of the acoustic/ballad songs listed

I can totally see ANtR happening without Mike, I'd actually prefer that. TDEN would be slightly harder but still it's not impossible to overcome. However, I'd like them to skip TDEN overall.

+1 for both.

I thought As I Am should be dropped too, and I think that way both because of the reason you stated, and because it's been on a constant/quite frequent rotation in the last 4 tours for no extraordinarily good reason.
I also totally agree with you about Hollow Years and Another Day. Hollow Years is also around for quite too long, while Another Day was played every now and then on CiM, and JLB did it more or less justice.

Can you 'retire' a song that's never been played live? (The Best of Times) :P

In that case, they should totally retire Space-Dye Vest

They should open with TGP just to annoy mike, and because it would be awesome.

I agree with Constant Motion.  It's a pretty fun and aggressive song to play live, but it's been a pretty solid part of the last two tours and thus can get a rest.  I'd also like to see Panic Attack get the hook for a bit as well, replaced by perhaps a mid-temp 8VM song like These Walls or Walk Beside You.  Finally, As I Am is a pretty cool way to open a show, but that should also be rested up for a bit, perhaps to be replaced by Honor Thy Father.

And this may be blasphemy, but I'd like to see Home put away for a while, perhaps to be replaced by another of their 10-15 minute songs, like Trial of Tears or Learning to Live (which only saw the Schmediy Wilcox medley on Chaos in Motion).
