I don't care what anybody says the last 8 minutes of this song is musical perfection.

The rest is great too.

The whole song is musical perfection.

Sorry, no. Most of it is perfect and its one of the songs which turned me a fan but the full circle part is tedious and the lyrical content in it is cringe worthy and laughable. What the fuck lyrics made from other bands songs?

Isn't this where we came in?
sailing on the seven seize the day tripper diem's ready
jack the ripper owens wilson phillips and my supper's ready

Lyrics don't have to be any certain way. They don't have to make sense or anything.

As long as they show some degree of creativity and have a vocal melody behind them, they're fine.

I still like the full circle section.  Its kind of a gimmick, but I'm a sucker for it, I guess.  I love that part, and the song is perfect from start to finish.  The album is pretty good too.

While I agree with you, that part sounds patched up to me compared to the rest of the song melodies. Personally I don't care what the fans think about the latest DT lyrics (TCOT is fine by me) but some of them cut out some enjoyment of the song itself.

Ben_Jamin

Outlaw just smacked the nail on the head. I listen to lyrics the same way.

Yeah, not liking that is understandable. It is sort of silly in a sense. But I enjoy it.

Mladen

Full circle has incredible lyrics.  :metal

And the rest of the song rules as well.

RuRoRul

Full Circle is probably my favourite part of the song. Who cares if they made lyrics composed of mashing together titles of various old songs / bands / other things? It may not be the usual way of doing things, but it works well.

bosk1

Not only does it work well, but it's the whole point of that section.

LKap13

When the song switches into gear at 8:49 (thank you Myung for that brilliant part) it's musical perfection.
Also, the Moog solo is what Rudess needs to do more often.

See also, the Beatles.

Love the Full Circle lyrics.

Is this appreciation thread restricted to Octavarium the song, or does it extend to Octavarium the album?

I'm in an appreciating mood and would like to appreciate as much as the thread's parameters allow.  :)

Greatest song with the greatest buildup with by far the greatest climax ever.
Used by Pain of Salvation coming in at number two for best climax

I seriously love every single thing about this song. I love it so much I actually force myself to only listen to it twice a year. I mean, dat bass solo, dat melody chord progression, dat jingle bells quote with the last chord a half step down, dat extra eighth note the second time he yells dat line, etc.

Am I allowed to state how insanely overrated this song is in this thread?

Only if you agree to state that you are wrong as well.

One in the same.

Space Invader

Good song. GREAT instrumental section. I couldn't care less about the lyrics, silly though they are, because the backing instruments are so amazing.

darkshade

back when it was the newest album, i would not listen to anything after listening to the title track. kind of 'taking it all in kind' of thing. Did that with Close to the Edge too.

nowadays i dont care, though i only throw it on once, twice (and maybe 3) times a year, due to its awesomeness!

the album i listen to only a once a year

On August fifth?

no, May 8th

also i listened to it on February 24, 2008. The 55th day of the year for 2008. also February has 8 letters, and 2 x 4 = 8. also, 5 + 5 = 10  10 - 2 (2nd month o/year) = 8

Tied with Supper's Ready in the climax department for me.  :tup

Intervals is my favorite "section" of music ever. I just love the intensity and release the whole album has built up to that point, and its execution is flawless (really, could not be more perfect).
\o\ lol /o/

dethklok09

the song is a masterpiece and i think what really got me to like dream theater. also i think the whole album in general is my 2nd or 3rd favorite dream theater album

ReaPsTA

Octavarium is honestly my second favorite DT song.

jsem

When I began listening to DT, it was probably my fav song. Then I started going through their entire discography and come to find out there were even better songs.

juice
