JP facebook status: "The News 12 Long Island piece on DT's induction into the LI Music Hall of Fame and my interview is running all day today."

How can we get this???

Apparently you need to have cable in NY and be able to watch News 12 Long Island in order to look at their site.  Lame.

Mebert78

I just saw it on News 12.  It was about a minute.  I'm at work and couldn't follow it closely, but here's what I remember.  It basically said that DT is being inducted and it included an interview with Petrucci and some concert footage.  It explained how DT is the benchmark in progressive metal and Petrucci is a "guitar God."  Petrucci said that he lives in St. James and considers himself a regular Long Island guy that picks up his daughter from practices, but then the next day he's on stage at the Garden.  The piece also said that Portnoy left the band last month (which is wrong, because it was Sept, no?) and they are looking for a new drummer and plan to begin work on their next album this winter.

Petrucci = reglular long island guitar god
Because they're so common.
Some gods are more inaccessible than others. You want to get to Zues, you gotta know somebody. Mars, ehh, make an appointment and he might get to you. JP though, he's just a regular god. No biggie.

ZepellinDT and I will be there.  We are VIPs too.  I'll be wearing my DT cap like in my avatar, althought I'm not sure a cap is appropriate for a castle (I was told some people wear t-shirt and jeans to this).  I saw a press release yesterday that mentioned "confirmed performers" and DT has not been confirmed yet as a performer.  Not sure if that means they could still be confirmed or not.  Also, JP and JM are confirmed to be in attendance, but it doesn't mention the other guys.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they all attend and play a song or two.  It's a nice moment for the band and I think they'd all attend to support each other!

Well i just called them this morning, meaning the LIMHoF and i was told they are not performing unfortunately. She did say dream theater will be there. Of course i did'nt even bother asking if that meant all 4 members, but hopefully they will all be in attendance at the after party. But i'll be there with my friend  mel and you can't miss me since i'll probably be the only guy there with an eye patch on.

John Petrucci and John Myung will be the only ones attending from what I'm hearing.

Aw! I've been looking forwards to this acoustic set since it was announced. Really really looking forwards to it.

That's a massive shame. I'm quite disappointed now.

It's extremely lame, if you ask me.  I hope JR and JLB have something important that is keeping them from attending.  Sure, it's only the Long Island Hall of Fame.  But it's still an honor and you don't get inductd into a Hall of Fame everyday.  We, as fans, are taking the time to attend.  JR and JLB, who are actually in the band, might not attend?  It's not like they're on tour or anything.  JLB's tour was cancelled.  And didn't i just see a video posted on FB yesterday in which Jordan said he flew cross-country at the last minute to give a 10-minute speech about Morphwiz?  At a time when they are supposed to be stepping up public relations to fill MP's shoes, this is a thumbs-up down for DT.  Just being honest.  LI is where they got their start playing small local clubs and rehearing in a basement space, etc.  They should get their butts to Huntington, smile and wave, and play a couple of songs.

I agree with you completely, Mebert. Hopefully you'll get to meet the guys and that'll make it worth it.

gabeh1018

yea again it is disappointing that all four members won't be in attendance, but i am still excited to go and have the oppurtunity to meet JP and JM during the after party. Speaking of which, those two better attend that after party lol. I am pretty sure  like you other two, you only purchased those VIP tickets thinking that we will get to meet them.

Perpetual Change

For some reason, I just had a really random thought. Maybe Portnoy thinks the rest of the guys in Dream Theater "don't hang out together" because they've been secretly heading to bars and clubs after the DT shows together :P

Just a thought. A friend of mine claims to have seen Derek and Petrucci in a bar before...

Well, what admin said is just what he's hearing.  Doesn't mean its 100% fact, so I wouldn't rule out the acoustic show just yet.

See the above post. If I bother to post "what I'm hearing", it is from a source IN the band / management and is 100% fact. I don't waste my time with "little birds."

Yes, it is disappointing that JR and JLB won't be there as well, but I bet dollars to donuts that you'll at least get to hear John Myung speak.

Sorry, no info on if they'll hang around for the aftershow. You'll just have to press your luck with that one.

Perpetual Change

Lame. I hope for the people who bought tickets at least that they'll stick around for an after party.

Ben_Jamin

How can u expect them to play when they haven't even found a drummer yet. Seems logical for only JM and JP to attend

Mladen

Makes perfect sense to me. Hope to see some videos and pictures from the induction.

I don't get this attitude at all.  It's the Long Island Hall of Fame.  The only members currently in the band that are from Long Island are JP & JM.  Not to mention that JLB and JR might have perfectly legitimate reasons not to be there.  And it seems to me that if they were to perform, they should perform in the manner that got them in the HOF in the first place, which is most definitely NOT an acoustic set.  They can't play full-out because there is no drummer.

Not to mention that they don't owe you a performance just because you bought a ticket before any announcement about any hypothetical performance was made.  You'll be there for a piece of DT history that very of few of us will have the opportunity for.  Why isn't that enough?

JP and JM being there should definitely count as representing. An an accoustic performance to boot.. That'll be very cool. Hopefully they'll have something that could end up oin the new album similar to when James and John played The Silent Man on the WHJY Providence Christmas telethon back in '93.

Well, granted I'm bugged because I bought a ticket, so my opinion is admittedly biased.  But considering that JLB's tour is cancelled and JR doesn't live all that far away from what I hear (plus he grew up on Long Island), they should be there.  This is their first public event since MP left and they choose to represent themselves at 50%.  The event coordinators revealed that DT was invited to play a set (multiple songs), so DT obviously declined if they are not playing.  If DT was never asked to perform, then it's different.  But for the coordinators to ask DT to perform, and for DT to decline is kinda shitty.  Like I said, it's their first public event since the public face of the band (Mike Portnoy) left and it's a chance for the band to say: here we are, we're a unit, we're tight, and we appreciate the honor.  Instead, it kinda gives the appearance that JLB and JR can't be bothered.

We'll see how it goes tomorrow.  Maybe the event is really low profile and not a big deal.  If that's the case, I'll eat my words.  But it seems like a decent event considering the venue and ticket prices.

re: Performance - if the band doesn't have a drummer, and its lineup isn't complete yet, I would not have expected them to perform.

re: non-attendance by other guys in the band. I think this is weird, honestly. It's a Hall of Fame induction for a band. Shouldn't all the actual BAND members (past/present) be there unless there are commitments elsewhere (i.e. MP with A7X, JR if he has commitments)? JLB, KM, DS, and DC should absolutely be there.

Sorta lame if they are not.
