It struck me the other day that the main riff of Burning My Soul is very similar to The Thing That Should Not Be by Metallica. Different tempo and
feel but the sequence and intervals of the accented notes is almost the same.

Interesting that this only just hit me after many years of knowing both songs.

I mean, it's not a riff but after going through PF's discography, how can we not have mentioned Shine On You Crazy Diamond/8VM?

I guess it's a famous one. Regarding Octavarium, one I think I've never seen mentioned is the similarity between Octavarium's 7/8 riff (from III. Full Circle and IV. Intervals) and the second half riff from Genesis' Cinema Show, which is mentioned in the song itself.

And also about Octavarium, another coincidental Gilmour and Dream Theater connection: Gilmour's Red Sky At Night sounds like his take at the intro to Octavarium

I've always taken it for granted that any such similarities within Octavarium were 100% intentional nods.
